Lyon recommendations please

Has anyone ever been to L’Antropotes?
We have a lunchtime Choo Choo layover at the end of May.

Recently came back from Lyon. Paul Boscuse was nice but not worth the price IMO in a city blessed with fantastic food establishments. A couple of other suggestions; Leon de Lyon (bistro) and Les Terasses de Lyon. Was not a fan of Daniel et Denis (St Jean) but opinions may vary.

Bouchon Comptoir Brunet
Bánh mì & trà sửa TN
La Sommeliere (some GEMS on the wine list)

How was the food at La Sommeliere?

Food was very well executed, nothing mind blowing but definitely good and I remember feeling like it was very reasonably priced. The only note I’d have to the meal is the restaurant is tiny, very intimate, and quiet. Definitely more a romantic date spot than a boisterous party of a restaurant. (I went in August of ‘23)

Cinq Mains in Lyon was a restaurant highlight of my last visit. They have a deep cellar of surprising and off-the-beaten-path wines. The inventory on their list is just a small fraction of their collection: they’ll help you find something cool.

If you head to Vienne on the train (about 20-25 minutes south of Lyon), you can have a relaxing meal at Patrick Henriroux Restaurant La Pyramide. It’s a Michelin starred establishment. Lunch was 89 euros (looks like 97 euros now), and dinner was out of my price range. Lunch was 2 + hours and was a delight. From the service to the food. Everything was classy and elegant. A 375 is included with your meal. [

Restaurant. → Restaurant Gastronomique à Vienne · La Pyramide 2 étoiles Michelin

My notes. A friend from Wine Spectator recommended LA Pyramid in Vienne France. It’s a 20 minute train ride south of Lyon.

While I couldn’t afford dinner at this 1 star Michelin restaurant, at 89 euro all-in including service, it was a steal for lunch. Lunch was a leisurely 2.5 hours. This is a beautiful place with over the top attentiveness and flawless service.

A few fun things to start before my bluefin tuna first course. The menu has all the details. My main course was the Veal Loin. I can’t even describe how delicious both of these were. Hopefully the photos will convey this. A brioche roll and butter like cheese spread was delicious. The peach dessert was a special dish. Description on the menu. They just kept bringing ‘stuff’. Gotta love it.

The little glass of red juice was hibiscus juice. Not my style. The pink drink that someone had at the next table was a Rhubarb Spritz. It smelled and tasted devine. In the wine world it was 100 points. I did enjoy my half bottle of wine with lunch (included). I would have known that if I read the small print. 😉 Coffee and other bites followed. This was billed as 2 courses; but with the additions, it truly was an experience I’ll never forget.— at La Pyramide.

What’s happening the week of May 26? I’m too late for evening slots at several I’ve checked (but week before and after have availability)?

Check here:

Thanks, but other than sardine appetizer and pea tart, nothing for the pescatarian.

Prarial just books three weeks in advance, so still hopeful.

Thursday is Ascension, and Friday many places will faire le point.
We’re having some issues with a Friday lunch reservation.

Scott nails it. 'Faire le pont" - making the bridge. The Frenchies are so good at “faire le pont” it probably itself should be a French holiday…

But then they could only do it once a year…

Scott - This is not a personal criticism, but you clearly are not French. One holiday that is effective every “faire le pont” = genius. (We won’t even get into whether “Let’s have a pique-nique and then we’ll eat” should also be a holiday, much less “le cinq a sept”, at least in Paris…) (I take that back - in Paris it already IS a holiday…at least of sorts…).

Les Aldrets.
This bouchon is in Vieux Lyon, don’t know if near/around Confluence area.

Look at Bel Ami.

Are you in Lyon then?

I happen to have Friday lunch booked at a modest place Le Kitchen.

Les Halles de Lyon were our favorite meal(s) during our last visit to Lyon. So much fun to go from restaurant to restaurant, shop to shop.

We have a choo choo layover between Beaune and Barcelona.

Looking at some on line reviews for Les Halles, a fair number of complaints re price. Not sure if it’s just a case of the going price for quality or it’s inflated.

Would that be the best place to buy cheese to be bring back or is there a fromagerie elsewhere in town with top quality for less. Looking for 36 month old Comte.
