LVMH buys Phelps!

I bought Isole e Olena back in the 90s from Moore Brothers at their store in NJ. Still have some vin santo waiting to be opened after many years.

I have heard a bigger number for Insignia but ten thousand is still big.
Judging by the numbers of barrels they buy I think opus makes between one thousand and fifteen hundred barrels —225 liter— per year but I don’t know how much is bottled as Opus.
I have heard a figure of seven million bottles of Dom Perignon.
Mouton? Over 250,000 bottles! of course if a winery has three bottlings only they know

Isole e Olena was sold. How is the 2019 CC?

Probably De Marchi want to concentrate on Lessona. End of an era, kind of sad about this.

Tim is wrong on it being LVMH, but Isole e Olena has been sold to the group that owns Charles Heidsieck and Biondi-Santi. They immediately went into the Wilson-Daniels lineup

Opus is cagey about the numbers. I’ve heard numbers as low as 25K cases, but other numbers as high as 75K cases! I know the 2017 was short, but alas, the wine is not rare by any stretch.

I think Mouton is now in the 17-18K range. They and Lafite have over 100 hectares each (and Mouton’s property isn’t all technically in Paulliac either…). 1982 Mouton was over 300,000 750s alone.

My introduction to fine wine was the purchase of 12 bottles of 1994 Insignia that I believe I got in 1999. I paid a c-note per bottle which at the time very out of character for me. I still have a single bottle left that I’m holding for 2024.

Ha! I like this take. The force is strong with this one.

How many bottles of NV Moët & Chandon and Veuve Yellow Label do they sell?

Millions and millions. I would love to find out the exact number myself, but alas, have never been able to.

The amount of Veuve they sell allows them to do balla dinners for clients when Krug has its releases in the fall. They run thst ugly yellow boat out in the summer to woooo buyers and it works like a charm all the time. This forum is the exact opposite of LVMHs target market for them (I’m just quoting you to piggy back on what you’re saying btw) and they clearly sell gobshite amounts of it

Totally get it.

FWIW, they’ve actually been trying to slow down demand a bit. Retailers have been selling it at insane clips, and now that restaurants are open, it’s a dog fight on both sides.

The 75,000 cs figure for Opus seems out of line. Judging by the number of barrels they buy and how long they use them, 25K seems more in line. Constellation could divert grapes from To Kalon but they would want a pretty penny for them. They have extra space elsewhere for the barrels. Selling 75,000 cs at $300+ a bottle…not easy.

As for the Champenois, it seems just like yesterday they were in the toilet and now they are printing money. Visiting a big Champagne company is like visiting a company that makes semi conductors…they won’t tell you much.
