thanks Paul.
Just to clarify, both the wines will be Bonnes Mares.
Okay - less than 18 days out - any other suggestions for flights/themes?
I must choose my second wine to bring and need a little time to search through my cellar, my cellar is a lottle disorganized.
???
I’m contemplating a '93 white burg - i have a bottle left of Pernot BBM, if that interests anyone…last one I opened was slightly corked, so this one MUST be good.
But I have other wines and would gladly try to match the group’s interests.
I was slumming on the Barolo table thread, and saw the following from Bob Fyke, which I’ll quote since it fit what I was thinking exactly…
"Where is everybody?!!!
This thread is awfully quiet for the closeness of the event. Let’s see some wines! I want to obsess over them like a good Wine Berserker. "
You’d figure you wouldn’t be in mode to get a bunch of wino’s to talk about wines they’ll be enjoying shortly!
One thought I had was that I have an interesting '98 that could be paired with the 98 roumier, then we could single blind the roumier bonnes mares flight (98 BM, 01 BM, and mystery 98).
Sorry that I have been absent from this thread. I am sourcing my wine from the cellar of the friend who is coming with me – and it took awhile for us to get in sync on what we were proposing. It looks like it matches up well with Paul’s latest comments re 1998. Our current thought is to bring a flight of two 1998 Dujacs, the Clos St. Denis and the Echezeaux.
I would also be happy to bring a Champagne starter – Cellartracker yields:
1995 Charles Heidsieck Champagne Blanc des Millénaires
1996 Henriot Champagne Brut Millésimé, and
2003 Bollinger Champagne 2003 by Bollinger, Brut
as the most likely choices.
Any thoughts on any of this? Very much looking forward to seeing everyone.
Yum - that sounds great. I haven’t had a Dujac Echezeux since my last bottle of '93, but I’m a big fan.
Definitely looks like a 98 theme is developing, and considering good things about them opening up of late, not a bad thing.
I’ll figure out my second red once David and Josh figure out what they’re bringing.
I will also bring that bottle of '93 Pernot BBM just so we can all be reminded of what really good, aged (non-premoxed) white burg can be.
I’ve already let Mark Franks know…Kenny is not going to be able to make it.
I’m sorry to hear that - looking at other tables, it looks like a tough year for lots of people.
Do you want to tell me how you’d like your wine selection changed?
thanks for asking Paul, I’ll still bring both.
Finally went through the cellar and located the bottles I’m bringing. My mystery '98 has been found (as well as a back up in case anything is corked, hey, I can’t help it, it’s my one guaranteed tasting each year).
All I will say about the mystery 98 is that it is a cote de nuits grand cru from a not extremely well known producer - and was a really nice bottle before the wine closed down a number of years ago…although it’s my last bottle, I’ve heard enough good things about 98s coming around that it’s worth opening.
I really enjoyed our table and the wines that were brought were outstanding. 'cept for the 98 Gambal Mazis…ouch corked.
Thank you all for bringing great wines.
By ouch - you mean corked?
That was the Gambal 98 Mazi Chambertin.
The Dujac’s were great - the Clos St. Denis was one I would just sit and smell for hours - but the amazing thing was the wine was as terrific on the palate as on the nose.
What a terrific time…now the pain of the next few days, as the smells and tastes of the wines and cheeses return for fleeting moments, and the knowledge I’m not likely to taste such wines and food in the near future.
By they way, I’d add that the wines also did justice to the great company at the table - I had a lot of fun!
Sorry Paul I corrected the corked wine.
