Looking for Greek Recs

+3 on Thymiopoulos, especially if you can find the Blanc des Coteaux Cuvée Amphore - it’s kind of a blend of several grapes with malagousia leading the way, mostly skin-contact fermented and aged in amphora, except the assyrtiko that is whole cluster pressed and aged in oak. Really delicious in an oxidative LdH style.

And the late release (barrel aged) xinomavro Rose is also singular and interesting - again, calling LdH to mind. I think 2013 is the current release.

I recommend checking out Sclavos. I haven’t seen the name mentioned in this discussion, and the wines are very good.

+2. The 2014 Liatiko rose was an eye opener. I haven’t seen this wine in the US in many years. But thanks to Flatiron there is a mixed case of Economou sitting in my cellar - Heliades, Odyssey, Mirabello, Antigone, and even some Gea Dictynna. Good stuff.

For excellent and unique, I’d recommend the white wines made of Begleri grapes from Afanies wines. Visited the winery on the top of the island in Ikaria, and seemed so remote that I couldn’t imagine many others go there. Soil felt rocky, but the “rocks” would crumble in your hand after applying a bit of pressure.
