I want to gauge interest in a Chinese offline sometime in the near future. Orient in Bethpage (always BYOB, no corkage, but BYO stems) can accommodate anywhere from 10 to 40 in one room and offers the best Hong Kong-style Cantonese fare east of Flushing (none of that typical suburban glop). I can work with owner Tommy to put together a varied, wine-friendly multi-course menu for <$50pp. Wines – I find most aromatic whites work well with his food and not just riesling – I recently enjoyed an '04 Vieux Donjon Chateauneuf du Pape Blanc with this food. Fruit-forward, soft reds, go nicely, too, especially with his duck, lamb and pork dishes. This is not a place for monster reds or over-oaked Chards. Anyone interested?
Yes, I’m interested.
Interest. Good restaurant. Curiously, I received notice from a LI wine shop that is doing a dinner at Orient featuring … Spanish wines!?
We’re in. I heard there are a lot of bright lights at Orient so we may have to dim some. ![]()
my wife loves Chinese food (does not drink wine) depending on when this happens count us in for 2.5 (she is 5 plus months preggy
)
If offline does not happen for more than 3 months count us out LOL
That takes you up to two days before Christmas…the traditional time for Chinese food on Lawn Guyland. ![]()
That’s from Varietal in Manhasset. Joe did one there last November with some less-than-stellar Aussie, Chilean and Cali wines that overpowered almost every dish.
