Friday is just burgers, Saturdays are a bit more wide open, and Sundays are their interpretation of a British “Sunday roast”.
It builds on American barbecue concepts but is distinctly its own thing, borrowing heavily from across the globe. Top ingredients executed at an equally high level. Special.
Avoid Sette at the Bvlgari in London. Brutal night.
For context — Sette is the London location of Scarpetta from NYC (it’s literally their 7th location, sette = seven in Italian).
It started before we even got there. Had a reservation for a Wednesday night that we’d booked 2 months out. Got an email 24hrs before saying it was canceled - no explanation. Called the restaurant and was told they had a private event and were “sorry for the mixup.” Talked ourselves into rescheduling for Thursday. Big mistake.
Thursday night, 9pm, 2 tables occupied out of 20+. At the Bvlgari. In Knightsbridge.
Food was a disaster. Crudo was cut so badly you couldn’t eat it with the spoon they gave you. Lobster pasta had maybe 3 marble-sized pieces of lobster in it. The £56 ribeye I ordered medium came out well done to the point where it was basically leather - gray all the way through, no pink whatsoever.
£300+ for four people. Worst meal of the trip by a mile.
Owed you for that Smokestak recommendation; have been back three times and it’s been epic each time!
I’ll be in London first week of September, but only for Sunday. Any good recs for a restaurant that is open on Sundays for dinner for one? Staying at the Montcalm Mayfair so around that area ideally. No sushi, no Indian, ideally under £250pp
I made a “defensive” reservation at Corenucopia, as I’ve heard some good comments about it. But there’s a lot of time so I’m open to all ideas.
Noble Rot Mayfair?? Oops. I checked hours and they are not open Sundays. Drat.
Had a great meal on a Sunday at Mountain.
If I had to pick one restaurant from a recentish London trip to go back to it would be Mountain. Lots of great choices, for sure.
I like the menu but it looks like it might be better for sharing?
It’s a sharing joint imo. Same as Impala. But given your spend target you could easily sample a lot of the small plates.
I would honestly widen my aperture with an uber ride.
Im fluent with the Tube, i was thinking staying local-ish just because of timing, I get to my hotel around 6.30pm… But if I need to get around, that’s not a problem.
Its not a spending target, its a cap 
i tend to feel a little awkward when I order a table full of food just for myself so I think I’ll save that restaurant for a future trip.
Staying reasonably close to your hotel, look at Fallow on Haymarket, SW1 by Piccadilly Circus, or Bocca di Lupo in Soho, W1
Yes - you will probably over order as a party of 1, but it will be good.
Both good recs but been to both so would like to try something new this time.
I had a lovely Sunday roast at Parakeet for one person at dinner time. Serviceable wine list, think I got a glass of champagne and a bottle of good barolo, and nice vibe. I would go back for sure.
I have heard very good things about Kiln, and it is on my list to try. Open for dinner on Sundays.
I like Kiln. Beware that it gets very hot in the downstairs/basement dining room when the weather is warm.
St John in Marylebone is open on Sundays for dinner.
Just remembered Kima, a good Greek restaurant in Paddington Street, which is an easy walk from your hotel. The emphasis is on fish and seafood. It is open on Sunday evening.
The owner of Kima owns OPSO in the same street, also a Greek menu, but with a mix of meat and fish dishes. Also open Sunday evening.
Also on Paddington Street, and open for dinner on Sunday, is the Michelin starred Lita, which is modern Mediterranean with a strong Spanish influence.
I’d throw Oma’s hat in the ring if you also wanted to loop in a bit of borough market action…not a bad train ride on the jubilee. Can do an after drink at a few wine bars in walk shot.
I will second St John Marylebone. Easy walking distance from where you are staying, make a reservation a week or two in advance, even for a Sunday, and would recommend 630pm or earlier as they do tend to run out of things on the menu by 7pm or later.
If you’re up for a trip to Hackney, then the Marksman would be a great move for a fun bottle list and spot-on Sunday roast. It’s not far from Blinds and Sager+Wilde
