Steven Kent cab franc. Had some hits and misses, mostly misses, on a day trip to visit a few wineries there a couple years ago, but didn’t go by the Kent winery. A neighbor gave me a bottle of cab franc from there as a gift last year and it was Holy Sh** good with a ribeye. Livermore is trying to link its identity with cab franc, and Kent Winery is putting together a “Cabfranc-A-Palooza” on May 31 with dozens of wineries pouring
And it was great! Everyone seems to forget that per-prohibition Livermore Valley WAS the Napa of the time!
Just curious - do you like your wines really fruit forward? The tastings I have had of those are all fruit bombs. YMMV, of course.
It is like any area - some really nice wine makers, and some mass marketeers. Just hard sorting them out. BUT there are world class wines there. And without the hassles and traffic of Napa.
I don’t think I’d agree that they’re fruit bombs, but they are definitely fruit forward, for sure. I don’t know that I’ve had any Livermore wines that strike me as “old world” honestly. It’s pretty damn hot haha. Fwiw I do drink a lot of California wine so my palate enjoys fruit, but not jam, if that makes sense.
LOL, yes, perfect sense. One person’s fruit bomb is another’s fruit forward! My wife loves the ‘fruit forward’ ones. Its always funny that she will ask me if she will like a wine and the husband/wife code is “too fruit forward for me” == “you will like this one!”
You might have had fun out at the Franc festival - they had the full range there!
I didn’t even realize they had a Franc festival for Livermore wines, that’s cool! $23 for 50+ wineries is a crazy deal. Might have to check it out next year.
