Has anyone tasted these? Im particularly curious about the 2011 offerings because its the first vintage with Jon Raytek as winemaker.

An email from the winery tells me the entire 2011 vintage of Marisma Chardonnay has been lost due to “an incident at the warehouse.” Only 60 cases produced, but that sounds like a tough blow for a small winery that’s been doing some impressive work. Anyone know what happened?

Tom, thought I’d jump into the conversation here to clarify. We produced about a pallet of the 2011 Chardonnay “La Marisma”–the inaugural release of this exciting new project in the SCM. During transit, the storage conditions for that pallet (and that pallet only) were compromised. Our suspicions about this issue were soon confirmed by some bottle variation (we opened up a bunch of bottles from different cases). Since consistency is one of LIOCO’s primary objectives, we elected to recall and destroy the wine. A tough blow to be sure, but one we were both willing and able to endure in the interest of protecting the brand. That all said, the 2012 “La Marisma” which will be released in the spring 2014, will surely garner some fans. Tasting it from tank, it is the more exotic cousin of our '12 “Hanzell.” Cheers!

Matt, thanks for the information. I’ll look forward to that 2012 Marisma, a well as my order of this year’s releases which will be on my doorstep next week. I think your pinots are showing as much sense of place as any I’m tasting from California these days – and keep on unapologetically using the words “low alcohol”!

I tasted the wines in August at the crush facility. My favorites were the Klindt and Hirsch Pinot Noirs.

Sorry to hear about the Marisma Chard, have/had a couple bottles on order - never got the email tho…

Loved the Hirsch Pinot at WoW. And my wife and I just had a bottle of the Klindt off the list at the new Zazu at the Barlow - still very young, but a great match with the roast duck, and reasonably priced at around $80.
