Light meals at home in Santa Fe

Last night, after driving all the way home from Henderson NV in one day in sunshine with few clouds, we arrived a little after 7:30pm. We left Henderson early enough to decide not to stop in Flagstaff, but carry on to home. We were a little hungry after our indulgences in the Las Vegas area. We decided to have our left-over Porterhouse from Ken’s birthday dinner, cold with mayonnaise, mustard & BBQ sauce, while watching practice & qualifying for the Brazilian Grand Prix. This was very good with a 2005 Domaine Chandon des Brailles Savigny-le-Beaune 1er Cru ‘Les Lavières’ - bright, spicy red and dark fruit, with barely adequate acidity, and a medium long fruity finish. Then we finished with sliced Black Mission figs and ripe St. André cheese, with a lovely 1989 Chateau Raymond-Lafon Sauternes - rich complex white fruits, light sweetness, and a long finish. I’ve always thought the match-up of figs, St. André, and Sauternes/Barsac was one of my favorite desserts.

Then tonight after an afternoon of wind, rain, and hail with thunder and lightning, we had a tasty chicken & boudin blanc gumbo with rice and rich chicken stock, thickened with filé gumbo. This was enjoyed with a 2004 Ravenswood Zinfandel ‘Barricia’ from Sonoma Valley. The zin’s bright berry fruit and good acidity were nice with the slightly spicy gumbo. We had Cajun Power Garlic Hot sauce and Then while watching the Brazilian Grand Prix, we had Flannery’s Wine Country Chocolates - 72% goes with zinfandel, and 56% goes with Port ; with a simple Fonseca Bin #27 Port, that was great with the 56% and ok with the 72%.

Glad you are safely home!!
