Any idea how long I should plan to be on the waiting list for Lewelling? thanks
When we visited the property in May, our friends signed up for the list, and Dave told them to expect a wait of three to four years. That’s just a bit longer than I waited before getting on the list for the 2007 vintage.
very helpful. Thank you, sir.
But, even if you are on the list, you aren’t guaranteed wine - I have missed out the last 2-3 years because I haven’t gotten to my email fast enough on th day it hit. So, if you do make it, act fast.
Even though you appear to be a Cardinals fan, I appreciate your insight, said the Nationals fan.
Sadly, both of us are sitting on the sidelines…
I signed up Oct '10 and haven’t heard anything - so it’s more than 4 years.
Have you tried Hayfork? No wait as far as I know.
What vintage(s) and varieties did you taste?? Your assessment/review?? I would think the 2011 must not be too good based on price and the fact that the number of cases is down and there is no Wight.
Lewelling hasn’t really increased their price at all since I’ve started buying the 03s. I’m pretty sure the bundle of the Regular + Wight is still right around $100 for two bottles. Great family + Customer service and fairly priced. Glad to be a supporter.
The Lewelling website says the 2011 was offered on November 12, 2013. If that is correct, then the 2012s should be next.
Correct, the 12’s will be offered in the coming weeks, the 2011 Lewelling is being released.
Had the pleasure to taste the 2011 with Dave earlier this year, and it’s definitely a throw back wine. Reminds me a Napa cab from the 70’s (I’ve only had a few), but really nice food friendly wine. Certainly more red fruit than in recent years, and maybe even a hint of green olive, but in a good way. Probably a wine to drink over the next 5 to 10 years.
We tasted the 2011 over the course of two hours, and I agree with P Soals assessment. It’s certainly a more restrained wine than other years and offers plenty to enjoy and contemplate.

Thanks for the tasting info. Looking forward to my 2011 shipment.
Off the top of my head I would say I have been on the waiting list for at least 5 years. Pretty odd for a wine with good retail availability.
Brian, in a good year Lewelling might have 1200 cases of total production. They have remained loyal to retailers who have supported them over the years, and still provide some wine to them. The block of vines used for this wine is relatively small, with one small portion recently replanted. They simply don’t have enough grapes to make anymore wine. Combine that with some very favorable reviews over last several years, and stellar pricing (does any other mailing list that is full, still offer 10% discount with a case purchase?) and loyal purchasers, and it leads to a long wait for new people. If you are ever in Napa, they are always generous with their time and wine if you are able to make an appointment, even for people not on the purchase list.
