I was shocked when I did the CT search - my lowest CT rated wine is a 2000 Wild Duck Creek Duck Muck at CT79.
Haven’t opened one yet but, it’s a WA95 and current WineBid quarterly average is $224.25/bottle.
I’m sure the worst wine I “own” is a circa 1970 white wine in a “fish” shaped bottle that my wife has had displayed in the kitchen window for 35+ years. Probably only suitable for chemical warfare at this point!
My first post is about my worst wine too! [imnewhere.gif] I’ve been lurking here since Todd sent out that e-mail to the eBob Facebook group, but there were a couple things in this thread that made me have to finally register. I’ll start contributing now.
Do you mean like this bottle of Pescevino? The beauty in this picture has been sitting in our kitchen window since 2001 or 2002. It’s not suitable for chemical warfare just yet though, but give me 10 years and we can form an alliance! I haven’t loaded it into CellarTracker though for obvious reasons…
I’m that guy! I was pretty new at writing TNs at that point (we all have to start somewhere), and just starting to venture into some Bordeaux. I learned quickly that if I couldn’t pronounce the names of the wines, it meant that I hadn’t done enough research yet, and I shouldn’t be buying them. I way overpaid for the 99 Duhart-Milon, and it was the 4th bottle in the lineup after an 01 Quintessa, 03 Orin Swift Mercury Head, and an 03 Boudreaux Cab. The 99 DM left a really bad chalky aftertaste. Like you chewed a Tums right before drinking wine. You can disregard that note for your purposes - I just wanted to own up to it. Sometimes it’s fun to look back at TNs from when you first started out and see how far you’ve come.
Alan, which reminds me. Traci, when she lived in Dallas, had a member of her tasting group proclaim that he owned NO CORKED bottles. When challenged on this statement, he proclaimed that b/c they were in his cellar which he knew to be TCA free…hmmm…

Mine is pretty similar, but it is an Italian “Dante” Soave - upon closer inspection, I see the tax stamp is 1975 so we have probably only had it sitting on the window sill for 33-34 years! IIRC, it has lasted longer than the store we bought it from (Akron Department Store in SoCal)!
Currently, mine is a bottle of Manishevitz elderberry wine, set to be hand delivered to my Gram this weekend. It is her all-time favorite (and hard to come by in PA, so I buy it for her in NJ and take it to her in central PA). And when you are about to turn 95, you are allowed to drink whatever you want, no questions asked!
Among the 85% of my wine rated on CT it is:
2004 Mas Morties Coteaux du Languedoc Pic St. Loup Jamais Content (CT:80 / WA 91)
2004 Castello di Verrazzano Sassello Toscana IGT (CT 80)
However, I think that the worst bottle in my cellar is 2006 Ravenswood Zinfandel Vintners Blend…
Those bottles of 2001 Texier Cotes du Rhone la Brezeme.
Just nasty stuff and I have 7 more bottles or so.
I just open them and end up pouring it down the drain.
Maybe one day there will be one that has some redeeming qualities.
I have a whole bunch of Garretson that I guess I’m in denial about ever buying. I’m going to have to start drinking through that some time soon.
The lowest-rated wine I have based on Cellartracker! scores is a 2004 F. Engel Gewurz Reserve. Which makes we wonder how bad the estate version is.
The worst wine that I’ve actually tasted is the 1994 Baruel Cevannes, a syrah. Lip-puckering tannins that are no where near resolving and no fruit.
Using the CT criteria, my worst bottle is a 1996 Roty “Fonteneys” Gevrey-Chambertin 1er with a 72. Not sure why I even bought this (not huge Roty fan), but in any case we’ll see when I open (which will probably be a while). But while I love lots of things about CT, scores from folks I don’t know don’t particularly worry (or excite) me. I have some other wines with CT scores under 84:
1996 Mugnier Chambolle-Musigny
2006 Thomas-Labaille Les Monts Damnes
2005 Drouhin Côte de Beaune
2001 St. Urbans-Hof Ockfener Bockstein Kabinett
2004 Lafarge Bourgogne
1996 Thunder Mountain Star Ruby Bates Ranch
I’ve not had the Thunder Mountain, but have tried all the others, and am perfectly happy to have in cellar. Probably more so than a Beringer Sbragia Chard that gets a CT of 92.x.
I have a few bottles left of the '01 Aia Vecchia Lagone that I got from Garagiste. Blech! After trying one, I’m keeping the rest in deep slumber, hoping they’ll turn into something drinkable.
Excluding premoxed white burgs, of course. Though I’m on a pretty strong course to have most of the likely candidates purged from the cellar soon. Keeping my Chablis, though – haven’t had much bad luck with them yet (crosses fingers).
I have some house-gift wines that I keep in the cellar to
a.) take up thermal space
b.) present themselves available for cooking and regifting (only for a special person ).
Well, I’ve got two bottles of Two Buck Chuck in my home right now … but I bought them more for use in filming some spoofy videos. I had to buy bottles of Little Penguin and Yellow Tail at the same time too… needless to say, I slung down my baseball cap real low to hide my face when I went to pay for those bottles
