I had a glass of this wine at Post Ranch Inn over lunch… I didn’t take any notes on it but thought it was a beautiful expression of reined in new world grenache (reminded me of the Betts and Scholl Grenache which I understand is inspired by Rayas).
I haven’t tasted a lot of wines from the area - pretty much all of them from Rhône and Iberian grape varieties grown at Pierce Ranch and produced by Pierce Ranch’s own label and by Quinta Cruz (sister label of Santa Cruz Mountain Vineyard). But I think there is greater potential for those warmer-climate grape varieties in San Antonio Vallay, which may be the least-known AVA in Monterey County.
