Lentil Soup with older Cal-Rhône

Tonight’s supper was lentil soup with spicy lamb Merguez sausage. With the slightly spicy soup, we enjoyed a 1994 Terre Rouge Noir ‘Grande Année’ (blend of 42% Grenache, 36% Mourvedre, 22% Syrah; from Amador County) - fill less than a quarter inch below the capsule; cork stained just at the bottom of the cork; nose and flavors of secondary and tertiary spicy red & black fruits; mid-palate of pleasant dark fruits with barely adequate acidity, and fully resolved tannins; with a long dark fruit finish. This was the last bottle of a case we bought on our first trip to the Amador County Barrel Tasting Weekend.

Then for dessert we had a Ghiradelli 61% Cocoa dark chocolate bar along with French Vanilla, Chocolate Hazelnut, & Dark Chocolate Piroulines - with a lovely 2003 Domaine de Mas Blanc Banyuls ‘Rimage la Coume’. A delightful combination while watching various TiVo’d programs.
