Law Estates on Sep 8th

Not sure if anyone here cares. But their 2011 wines will be released next week.
I was quite impressed with their wines when I visited Paso recently and even more impressed with the same wines when I had them at home.
They don’t seem to be in the old full throttle style, but they are full bodied wines. Perhaps comparable to Epoch but with more character, although I guess that Epoch is probably more loved by critics.

Hmm, not “full throttle”, Pete? When a group of former HdR attendees visited Law back in April, we were told by their representative who hosted us that they typically harvest around 30° Brix and water back to get the wines down to around 16.2% alcohol. In light of that, I was surprised that the wines we tasted seemed reasonably well-balanced (current vintage, 2010), but I gotta think that with a couple of years of age the alcohol and prunes will be much in evidence. The rep said the wines would be at their best at 15 years of age. That’s a long-shot, IMO. If you like the style, drink them now, they are certainly polished and rich. And yes, definitely “full throttle”.

Never even looked at the ABV, just went with how they tasted. At 16+% I’d agree that they should be consumed early.
When I think of old school Paso it’s the Saxums and LCs from 2000-04 and they were too much even for me.
