Sure thing. Thanks.

Just received my Collector’s Edition 6-Pack Mystery Case. I was allocated the following wines. If you ordered this what did you get?

2014 La Massa Giorgio Primo Toscana (Retail $160 vs $79 recently on LB)
2016 Cain Five (Retail $225 vs $45 2006 / $39 2013/15/17 recently on LB )
2008 Champagne Gardey Prestige Brut (Retila $150 vs $79 recently on LB)
2019 Jacopo Biondi Santi di Montepo CS Fontecanese Toscana (Retial $275 vs $250 recently on LB for 2021/22)
2018 Kapcsandy Merlot Roberta’s Reserve (Retail $350 vs $119 recently on LB)
2017 Penfolds Shiraz St Henri (Retail $180 vs $97 recently on LB) - I bought this in the original offering as well

So, $669 of recent LB pricing for $399. I guess that’s a bit of a deal but not as fantastic as the represented discount from $1340/$1270.

Other impressions from those who bought this and/or didn’t jump on it?

Honestly that’s a little better than I would’ve expected. All the producers are super legit and no random LB private label Napa cabs. $669 of LB pricing for $399 with real producers is a solid deal considering everything is already discounted.

Thanks Jason! Agreed! That’s kinda where my impression landed. I was afraid after purchasing that there would be some of the private label stuff from here or say Wine Access that would fill the slots with maybe one being a recognizable producer or value.

The Roberta’s Reserve alone is almost worth that price. That’s a great wine and you should enjoy it.

Completely agree! I had an ‘18 that I got from the marathon a few weeks ago. Absolutely amazing! I’m glad I’ve started stocking up on Kapcsandy when I see good pricing.

The 2018 Edge Hill Mixed Blacks is available at $40 w/ a 3 bottle purchase at First Bottle.

I know there has been mixed feedback on this wine but I think it’s awesome. It’s surprisingly light bodied and extremely nuanced. Awesome finish.

I initially bought 2 during the LB marathon. I think it’s well worth $40.

Fascinating. I had an older vintage I think once before the marathon ever happened. I thought it was deep and structured and I would have pinned it more in the petite sirah camp than zin

I didn’t get that at all. Isn’t wine wonderful?

I love how different palates can perceive a similar wine entirely different.

I would have never guessed this is a Zinfandel blend. Excellent bottle.

I wonder if the vintages are different because of different winemakers over the years. I’m not certain, but I feel like they had several different winemakers.

For what it is worth, there are multiple CellarTracker reviews that tend to agree with your sentiment. I may be in the minority, but I do not get Zinfandel or Petite Sirah.

The only Zinfandel I have consumed that has a somewhat similar body was a limerick lane Squatter’s Hill.

Also, the 2018 Edge Hill needs at least 30 minutes to blow off a slightly funky nose. :man_shrugging:

Recently opened a 22 Alma Rosa El Jabali Chard from LB. Not to my liking. Oaky and heavy alcohol. Well made and maybe will improve with time, but not our style.

This was the exact impression that I had when drinking the 2014 many years ago, the wine is so earthy and nothing like what you would expect from a most Zin/PS blend. Just wonderful stuff. However, the 2016 that I had a few weeks ago was BIG and less earthy, but still good.

Barry,
Thanks for posting the Meteor list. I have not had Meteor wines but have heard very nice things about them. Anyone have any thoughts on how good of deals these are? They seem to be around 60-65% off suggested retail but not sure if that is really what the wine actually sells for. Seems like good deals but not as good as Elivette given the reviews I have read. I am completely out of cellar space after Elivette but this maybe worth buying a few bottles at least.

What people should realize about these Edge Hill Mixed Blacks wines is that the do not fit in wine fridge shelving - not even my Eurocave Revelation L. They are very large. I had to put them in bulk storage only. No biggy if you have a walk-in cellar, but worth noting if you use wine fridges.

The Edge Hill Mixed Blacks fit in our magnum racking, a little tippy on the front since they are Pinot style bottles, but otherwise a good use of space on magnum racks if anyone (like me) put too many in their cellar.

all the robots are saying morlet. seems likely given their availability during the marathon.

All my robots are also saying Morlet, but Copilot seems convinced it is Tor.

:cross_mark: Where Morlet doesn’t match the riddle

1. “Fifth generation winemaker”

Luc Morlet is fourth generation, not fifth. The riddle is very explicit about fifth generation.

2. “Built everything from scratch, didn’t inherit a domaine”

Luc Morlet did inherit family vineyards in Champagne and Burgundy (though he built his Napa brand independently). The clue implies no inherited vineyards at all.

3. “Refurbished a historic pre‑Prohibition winery”

This is the biggest mismatch. Morlet’s winery is historic, but not a refurbished pre‑Prohibition co‑op facility turned “Hogwarts for chefs.” That clue points extremely specifically to the Napa Wine Co. / Ghost Block facility — which is associated with TOR.

4. The exact 100‑point years

The riddle lists: 2009, 2015, 2016, 2018, 2021 This is TOR’s exact 100‑point list, not Morlet’s.
