It doesn’t appear to take very long. We’re seeing them for CAMX lately. (Don’t take this wrong… fan of CAMX over here)
Here is WS review from 20+ years ago, 91 points:
A rich, smooth and seductive style that starts out with flashy toasty, smoky oak and leads to a ripe, slightly hot and intense wine with layers of currant and blackberry fruit that firms up on the finish, with a surge of tannins.
And WE, also 91 points:
An estate blend from a classic Napa property, and a very fine one. Shows concentrated blackberry, cassis and blueberry flavors and soft enough acids to let the sweet fruit shine, yet those mountain tannins are firm and astringent. They’re tough enough to demand very rich foods or time in the cellar. It’s a delightful choice.
Weird how salesy both those reviews are.
Decanter knows what their purpose is :). Of course, so do we…
Yeah, that last line in both reviews. Seems more like advocating than just reviewing.
I looked back at some emails and ‘08 and ‘09 were Decanter reviewed, too. I expect recently.
I don’t know what the takeaway is. It could be LB was just filling in the gaps where there were no ratings or not well regarded vintages.
It doesn’t necessarily mean they are bad wines. I mean, I found the ‘09 superb.
told my gf i wasnt going to buy more then they put this out…
They switched it out for a 2000.
Probably more about trying to get a note on how it’s tastes now (vs on release a decade or 2 ago) as a proof point that it’s still good. Totally agree tha it isn’t necessarily needed, but likely helps them (especially if the new score is a 95 vs original score of 90/91).
If I was running LB, I’d lead with these reviews!
For completeness sake, here is the 2008 Decanter review. Looks like the highest Decanter review of all of them.
I imagine it went something like, $100 for a 94 point score. $200 to bump it to 95 points. $500 and they will add a call-to-action line at the end to get people on the fence to jump.
Note: kidding of course. I enjoy these wines a lot, and the scores are likely deserved.
Max,
Did you come across any other WS reviews of Elivette? I have seen the 15-19.
If you just google vintage+elivette and go to one of the retailers selling that bottle online, they likely have reviews. You will have to try a few and in some cases go to the second google page
Any thoughts on today’s AXR red?
I’ve had past vintages. Decent modern napa red, but nothing special or distinguishing about it. Pass for me.
So glad they shipped today as lows in Chicago the next couple of days will be single digit
I agree ths is not necessarily good for your wine order. But as a female Jordan change your creepy profile picture.
@jordan_whitehead, you should go with this:
