Last up: 2009 Cristal - Champagne-logue. Ongoing account of vacation wines.

We cut our trip short by a couple of days. We’re drinking the good stuff, enjoying what we can while preparing for some big challenges and changes. The times call for Cristal.

2009 Louis Roederer Champagne Cristal Brut - France, Champagne (3/12/2020)
This is a brilliant champagne. If you pay attention , there is a crescendo of flavors and aromas. Dense citrus including lemon, lime and tangerine. Approachable now, but it promises to be sublime with some bottle age

WST, that photo tells the whole story these days, doesn’t it. And, that you’re coming home early, I’m sorry you have to cut your trip short.

The 2009 Cristal shines again!

I think the bottle on the left may now be worth more.

I’m sure that I’ll lose whatever little bona fides that I might have, but when I had the 2009 a couple of weeks ago, I was put off by the overtly citrus (primarily lemon and lime) profile. It seemed too one dimensional to me. I hope that it evolves into something significantly more complex.

Michael,
I must admit, I thought this bottle was superb but less so than one I had a while back. I chalked it up to the wine glasses, but maybe it’s shutting down.
Cheers,
Warren
