Last night bordeaux, 4 x 1982 + a 90,86,59, and a ringer

6 locals got together at friends house for what was titled as Best Bottle or at least Damn good bordx. Everything was decanted at least 2 hours before with the exception of the 90 angelus. Here is the list in order of my preference. Hoping to get copy of better notes.

1990 angelus-unanimous WOTN-rich, lots of delicious fruit, good acid, could drink this everyday

1995 Vasse Felix margaret river cab(aussie)-ringer (all had this as their #2 or #3)

1982 gruaud larose (all had as their #2 or #3)

1982 l’evangile

1982 lafite-fell about 2 or 3 places as the night went on (low fill)

1982 mouton-jumped 2 or 3 places as the night went on

1986 pichon lalande-very tight

1959 pichon baron-perfect provenance-just not in the right company

dessert
1975 yquem (750ml)-great color, not much acid, needed a touch more sweetness and richness

1988 yquem (375ml)-pop and pour, the perfect sauternes

starter
2001 Domaine Chevalier blanc Pessac-minerals, stone, grapefruit, lychee a hint of smoke, fat, great acidity, long finish

I see you drank very well last night, Jordan! I’m down to my last few bottles in a case of the '90 Angelus I bought as a future, and my only regret given how the wine has turned out is that I should have bought three cases flirtysmile .

I also love that '82 GL, although I’m still not convinced it’s any better than their '86.

Thanks for the note Jordan, I own more Angelus than any other wine and the 90 is the best vintage of all. I’m glad you decided to drink the wine instead of flip it.

Steve, by any chance have you tried the '94 Angelus? Last time I poured it, I did it side-by-side with the '89 & '90, and while I admit that it can’t run with that duo, the difference was not as great as you might expect. Maybe the wine of the vintage for me, at least right now.

Yea Bob, I’ve had it a few times over the years and like it a lot. While it’s not nearly as good as the 89, 90, 95, 98 or 00 it drinks well and for the money is well worth it. A very good example of right bank bdx and imo one of the better wines from 94.

It was one of 3 wines i got in from vinfolio this past week
