Last Minute Trip to Madrid/Barcelona

Great recs here - thanks Greg. Casa Gonzalez was killer and pretty child friendly.

A few more updates from our time in Madrid below. Will note that we mostly drank white wine since it was hot and sunny out and we were pushing a stroller with 2 small kids.

Ferreteria - stopped here for lunch and loved this place. Outstanding anchovies, great grilled octopus (my 4 year old ate most of it), and a solid wine list. AlbariƱo by the glass was excellent.

Casa Verona - very nice tapas bar. Highly recommend the tuna and cuttlefish

La mi venta - down by the palace, specialized in grilled meats. Vega Sicilia available at retail prices. There were several cool looking restaurants in this quiet street.

All of the above were kid friendly though don’t necessarily expect high chairs.

We went to Madrid & Darracott as well. Cool little shop but not sure on the selection, some of the recommendations seemed a bit gimmicky (Spanish merlot with 15% abv), will report back on the bottles I purchased with TNs.

Just returned from 10 days in Barcelona and Madrid. Both kids joined us, as this was a present for our daughter after completing her MBA. As a result, the trip wasn’t necessarily wine focused. Here were some of our favorites:

Barcelona:
Coure: Excellent dinner in Eixample. Highly recommend
Viana: The octopus was special
Bar Mut: Can’t go wrong here. Very nice bottle of grenache blanc
Patisserie Hoffman: Amazing pastries
Bar Brutal: Had lunch here the first day. Fun place, but food was only average

Madrid
Kuoco: Enjoyable South American themed tasting menu. After so many meals of tapas it was a nice change of pace. Good value at 75 euros. Drink pairing was only average.
Angelita: Excellent. Highly recommend. The ratatouille was sublime. Really enjoyed our bottle of 2019 Pago de los Capellanes Tinta Reserva.
Celso y Manolo: Decent. Wine list more limited.
