Large format bottle dimensions - need help

I’m building my cellar and want to incorporate racking for large formats. Does anyone have height/width dimensions for large format bottles? I haven’t owned very many 3L+ and they’ve all been thrown away for the most part, so I’m flying blind a bit. Really just interested in 3L, 5L and 6L. I don’t think I’ll be owning anything bigger than that.

My assumption that even though there are many different sized 750ml and even a handful of 1500ml sizes, most of the larger bottles are the same from producer to producer and region to region.

This may help

Have a 5L from Holdredge = 20" h x 6 1/4" diameter.

I heard John modeled it after his, ummmmmmm, arm. Yeah, that’s it, arm. [snort.gif]

Yes, I see what you mean.

Sorry, but this isn’t close to being true. Bordeaux and Burgundy big bottles aren’t even the same measured in liters, let alone outside physical dimensions. Some 3L are very tall, some are very fat.

Then there is . . . Champagne!

You would be better off with some kind of shelving with adjustable separators.

Here are pix. The most varied size is 3L:

Champagne can be weird. However, German/Alsatian whites can be very long, which is very space-inefficient.

Thanks Ken. I guess I’m just used to just Bordeaux in large formats.

Appreciate the help everyone! Even the visuals.
