Lake county(CA) Sauvignon Blanc

There are 39 wineries in lake co and Sauvignon blanc seems to be their calling card(maybe cabs too). I have had brassfield and girls in the vineyard. Wanted to know what else is out there

Cowan, Envy does a SB dessert wine from Lake County,

The Lake County is subdivided (I believe) into different areas where Cabernet, Petite Sirah, and other reds are grown. Like Mendo, Solano, and even Marin, its wines are often used to fill-in North Coast bottlings.

There have been some more expensive investments in estate wineries up there, but I am drawing a blank.

It’s crazy how little we hear about peripheral Counties delivering great juice. I know that Shannon Ridge was supposed to be good value drinking, but I don’t know from personal experience.

Drew’s right on the money, a ton of that Sauv Blanc and Cab go down to Napa to get blended and fill out/bolster blends. Much of the SB is commercially farmed for yield in the lowlands, in the deep soils by the lake. It just doesn’t get enough money on the open market to get planted in the special sites, or to pay for the additional farming costs to take an already planted site from ordinary to special.

I don’t drink too much of the stuff, but the best LC SB I’ve had in YEARS is Zepaltas’ version, made in Sonoma. Gregory Graham makes great whites from Lake Co as well. Ceago, Two Angels and High Valley make nice versions - simple, fruity, clean, crisp wines in the $20 range. I’m sure there’s other producers making interesting wines out there, Six Sigma has been recommended to me before but I haven’t tried it.
