Oooh, Montille. Would be fun to leave a flaming bag of shit at his tasting table.

That’s the father who said the hurtful comments and Ive never seem him at these events.

“can you drop off this bag for your dad for me when you head back to burgundy”?

You coming up this time Charlie?

not sure. We’ll see. Have a lot of stuff pending in that 3 month period.

How could you consider missing the burgundy Olympics? Its a great time. Highly recommended.

Is it sold out? What are the dates? Is the West-coast version more laid back than what I read here about the East-coast?

edit: hear, not here, really?

Not on sale yet but I think soon
March 12-15, 2014
Everything in SF is more laid back than its counterpart in NYC so I dont see why this would be different.

wife trumps olympics

Solid list – I hope to be able to make it…

Cant argue with that

Thanks.

Anyone know what vintage will they be pouring at the Grand Tasting? Will is be mostly 2011’s??

If tradition holds, it will be 2011s, with very few exceptions.

2011s for the grand tasting

Thanks for the reply, bit of a bummer for me though. I am consciously skipping 2011 Burgundy for a number of reasons: price, quality, storage capacity, ability to easily backfill 2010’s and older at same prices as 2011’s, etc. In hindsight I probably should have gone to NY La Paulee last year as the next time La Paulee is in SF will be the 2013 vintage [head-bang.gif] which so far isn’t looking so good…

You don’t have to buy, Joel, just taste. The 2011’s are pretty good in their youth, and should make for a nice tasting.

How much do Grand Tasting tickets typically go for? We are looking for something to do that weekend…

And do people feel that part of the experience is worth it? Or does it suffer from a lot of the problems that other big tastings suffer from?

For the same reasons I am glad its going to be 2011s. In general I will probably not buy a lot of 2011s so I am looking forward to tasting a lot of them at this event to get their measure and satiate my intellectual curiosity.

With the exceptions of totally freak vintages like 2003/2004 I don’t really feel like there is any bad vintages in Burgundy anymore. The farming is so sophisticated and there is so much money to be put into maintaining quality I feel that every vintage makes interesting wines. And I think with time a lot of “marginal” vintages end up producing very impressive drinking experiences. Plus they have the benefit of perhaps even being fully mature in our lifetimes which is just not going to happen with vintages like 2005 and 2010.
