I recall a thread where several people recommended a particular Mexican restaurant in LA (on 1st, I think?) but can’t seem to find it.
Any help?

If on 1st, probably La Serenata De Garibaldi, 1842 E 1st St, Los Angeles, CA

Yes! That’s it, thanks Mark!
Haven’t been there in a while, but always enjoyed it for lunch. Thanks for the reminder.
A group of us from work (in Redondo Beach) used to go there for lunch two or three times a year. It was always enjoyable.
Best tacos I’ve ever had = El Burrito Jr. on PCH in S. Redondo. I used to live 2 blocks away … and to think I didn’t find out about it until AFTER I moved!!
IMO the best Mexican place in LA is Moles La Tia on Caesar Chavez just east of the 710 Freeway. It is a bit specialized, but it has a very array of moles and they are quite delicious.
Just ate there yesterday after the L.A Phil concert, we love the place.
La Serenata de Garibaldi has two other locations, in West LA and Santa Monica I think, but they never seem to get the same level of adulation as the one near East LA.
I’m on the West Side much more frequently than Downtown. Anyone have thoughts on this?
Has anyone been to La Casita Mexicana, located in Bell? It was featured on Bobby Flay’s “Throwdown” show - for the chile relleno throwdown, iirc.
I love La Seranata (I lived in LA for 13 years) but remember, its more ‘refined’ than regular LA style Mexican food (they say they represent more the Mexico City type cuisine). You’ll have a great meal there.
But when I visit LA now, I want the “down home” style Border type Mexican food…take me to El Conquistador on Sunset, or a myriad of other places.

The Westside versions don’t have the same chef. They are run by a cousin of the owner of the original, IIRC.
I ate at the SM version and didn’t have as good of an experience.
