Kudo's for RN-74 Seattle wine service

Had dinner tonight at RN-74 in Seattle. Nice experience, albeit too loud. It was a pleasure to have non-ostentatious good wine service. A bottle of 2002 Pavelot Dominode that we brought was double decanted upon request without batting an eye. the bottle of Lopez de Heredia 2001 Tondonia Reserve that we ordered off the list was a little slow in coming. Finally the som came to appologize, stating that the first three bottles he had opened were corked and would we want to pick another Rioja off the list, or try a fourth?! Most other spots in this town would have offered you the bottle of obviously corked wine and hoped you would accept it, or would have not had a clue that the wine was flawed and made it your problem instead of theirs.

Of course, there’s no way a fourth bottle in a row would be corked, so I asked that they open another, which it turns out was just fine. Good job.

I’ve been there on several occasions, a few of which were focused tastings, and they are first rate.

Jeff Lindsay Thorsen is a top flight somm. And a nice guy!

I was there last Saturday night and the Somm actually broke the lip of the bottle off while opening it, just a chip but he walked over to me to show me the bottle and then told me that I won’t be charged corkage for both my bottles. Now that’s service!

Sneaking back in there, huh?!

+1000

I was sorry when he left Cafe Juanita until I realized he landed at RN-74. Always interested, never pretentious ALWAYS customer focused, (not just Jeff but all of them.) It’s always about YOU first, then the wine, never about them. The whole team seems to have a great knack for knowing exactly how much service each customer wants/need. Indeed - kudos to them!

We should sneak back in there again!

[wink.gif] Not really sneaking, date night. Lets do another dinner Kris.

Of course, now I’m worried about the LdH wines I have and have just ordered more of. Three corkers in a row?

Indeed, Jeff and Co. do a great job. And I’m all for sneaking back in with the troublesome Seattle crew.
