Just one voice, but my vote would be to keep things as is, Champagne-wise.
I don’t trust the secondary market for Champagne, for the most part. It’s fragile. But that’s just my experience.
Just curious, how many of the participants bought their bottles at or near release? I bought my '85 three years after release, but from a trusted (in those days ha ha) source.
Acquired my 96 at release. Agreed that you have to be careful with secondary market champagne… but sometimes it’s necessary. I’m just not old enough to have collected older vintages on release.
Fortunately I bought my 1990 at release from a retailer I knew well. Hopefully all of these older btls show well Happy to see several with great provenance.
I can bring some stickies, if we want to round out the non-bubbles lineup. '83 Dow and an '01 Rieussec (375ml of the Rieussec, lest we lapse into diabetic comas), perhaps?
Well I will bring a Chave for the red, it will either be something from the 80’s, 90’s or 2000’s whatever I can find in the nightmare that is my cellar so if I can only find a 09 I don’t want to hear any whining that it’s too young
And my bottle was bought 1 year after release locally fwiw.
Payment: they only take 2 credit cards per party. Please bring cash or have venmo/PayPal/bankpay. I’d recommend roughly $150 in cash. Could be more could be less. But that’s a rough estimate.
Please bring one extra $10 bill. I’ll be tipping the general manager and the main server for our private room a little extra. They take SUPER amazing care of us and give lots of extra food. the general tip gets split among all the other wait staff and bus boys (there will be a lot of people helping us!)
Stems: if you have your own please bring. They can probably spare 3 stems a person but if you’re from in town please bring your own so our 5 out of towners have plenty of stems!
Sadly I’m going to have to back out of this one I have to go out of town tomorrow morning and deal with some family issues ugh. But if anyone is around today or this evening I am happy to drop off my 2000 so you all can enjoy it tomorrow. Let me know. Just hate to miss this!
