I just ordered a case of Anthony Yount’s Kinero Alice Grenache Blanc. He has a case and shipping discount special, so with 15% off and $18 shipping and no tax, you get some really nice every day whites for $20 per bottle at your door. It’s hard to beat that. I’ve ordered the Alice before and enjoy it.
Yount’s new release should be coming up the beginning of September, and I am looking forward to it. When I visited Paso last September, Anthony had to bail on the tasting, but he was cool about it and just dropped off three bottles to take home – one of which was literally the last of three Rustler bottles from James Berry Vineyard.
I really think his label’s whites are some of the best values out there. Anyone else share this sentiment?
I had a chance to taste with Anthony in June. We tasted the Kinero lineup (the Chard and Roussanne I think were in barrel at the time) and we were struck by the energy of the wines. We tasted a lot of Grenache Blanc on that trip and I’d put Anthony’s in the top tier - I thought The Jaffurs GB also killed it. Anyway, he was a cool customer and we enjoyed our brief time there. His Denner whites are also absolutely worth seeking out. I think the blends he makes there, both red and white, kind of reveal his chops.
Just had a great visit with Anthony. He is also doing a superb job with the reds at Denner. They are much more vibrant, lively, and civilized than I recall from the past.
With his Kinero label, it is only rhone-styled whites – his Denner wines are another story.
I can’t say about the ditch digger and dirt worshipper from 2012. Mine are all corked up. I opened up a '10 Dirt Worshipper a couple of weeks ago though, and that was outstanding.
Alan,
Anthony, is actually experimenting with Grenache as a Kinero project. AG reviewed one, but it is not being released. My guess is that you’d not like this wine any better. BRW, I’m very far from AFEW, but sometimes my EU roots do come out.
Alan, I’m guessing typos. Likely “by the way”, and AFWE (Anti-Flavor Wine Elite). I’ve heard that Anthony is doing some reds under a different label than Denner, but I didn’t know it was under Kinero. Curious to see how those turn out.
