I’d been meaning to post these notes from this past weekend but I wanted to hold off until I’d solidified my purchase on a couple more Gonon St. Josephs before continuing to spread the word. I really liked the 2009, but the 2010 is right in my wheelhouse. What a wine! I only wish there was more to go around. And PY Colin-Morey continues to climb the ladder among my favorite producers of white burg.

2009 Pierre-Yves Colin-Morey Chassagne-Montrachet Les Ancegnières - France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Chassagne-Montrachet (4/9/2012)
Just a touch of reduction to start. Decanted and this opened up really nicely to show toasty meyer lemon and a stony minerality on the nose. The palate is rich and mouth coating, in keeping with the vintage, but also maintains fresh acidity. Very good length, finishing with honey and hazelnut on the way out. Fantastic for the price! -
2010 Pierre Gonon St. Joseph - France, Rhône, Northern Rhône, St. Joseph (4/9/2012)
As fresh as a daisy. Tastes like a barrel sample, with juicy blackberry fruit, cracked black pepper, and the freshest of lilacs leaping from the glass. The palate has incredible freshness, with high toned black fruits, beef stock, and impressive structure. Not quite as flashy and juicy as the 09 vintage was at the same stage. That said, this is far from lacking in concentration. A great young syrah that I’ll be eager to track over time. Back up the truck!
