Since Eric can’t start a thread on this for obvious reasons, I will. :slight_smile: Anyone else get the offer also? I’ll try anything once, and as a Cabernet freak I’m going to spring for 2 of the George and 2 of the Encomium. (You had me at “Rutherford Dust”…)

Maybe I should have sent them just to keep you informed on what’s going on at Keating Wines. My apologies.

Having had the chance to get an early peek (errr, sip) of the George III at an offline, I can attest that it’s some killer juice. Eric was apprehensive that it had just been bottled (IIRC) and might not have recovered yet to show at its best. But it was so damn good, if it got even better, well, then [swoon.gif]

We tried the 08 Cab this week, and it was very very good. It was tasted alongside some stiff competition: 07 Spottswoode, 07 Maybach and 08 Kapcsandy. We all liked it a lot, and for never having heard of the wine before, we were impressed.

Thanks so much, guys. The wine has been received extremely well, and it is very nice to hear on this board as well. That vineyard really produces such incredible fruit, and the 2008 was beautiful from very early on in the barrels. It is reassuring to hear it stands up well alongside such reputable producers.

And Chad, you remember correctly. In fact, the bottle I shared at the off-line was the first ever opened (it had been bottled two days prior). Hence my nervousness on how it would show.

Although I found Keating Wines through the woot.com offer, I’ve since joined the Keating Executive Wine Club and have travelled up to their tasting room. Great wines. The 2006 Malbec was one of my top 5 wines from 2010. I am by no means an expert and am slowly building a nice collection – still, I’ve shared their 2006 Malbec with many guests and family members; everyone has raved about this wine.

And yes, I tried the GBIII at the winery and it was amazing. Brought home a few of those and the E’s for the club shipment. And yes, I lucked out and there were some 2006 Malbec’s in the back I snagged.

Great wines, worth every penny.

Fast shipping. I popped an Encomium tonight. I am EXTREMELY hard to impress with a Cabernet. (I went to K&L’s Cab tasting on the weekend and disliked almost everything.) I was floored by this wine, it is an easy 95 points in my book; if I had to search for a shortcoming it’s that the finish is a TAD short, otherwise it would be a 96+. What an interesting blend; both the Napa elements (fat fruit and Rutherford dust) and the Sonoma notes (some tart fruit, higher acidity) are present and complement each other spectacularly well.

I am now really curious to see what the separate wines that were a part of this blend taste like on their own (GIII and the Montecillo).

These won’t fly under the radar for long, folks.
