Lots of enjoyable wines but few real standouts without laying down the coin.
I guess it all depends on how you set your expectations. If you expect a semblance of top-drawer Pouilly Fume every time you open a SB, then yes, you’re setting up for disappointment. I personally feel that there is a fair bit of tasty, reasonably priced SB out there. NZ delivers lots of reliable crisp sippers, and California is turning out lots of decent ones at reasonable prices (e.g. Bedrock). Spring is prime SB time for me, so I’m bullish on it at the moment.

I am stoked to be in the SB game…even if it is just I. Always loved the Didier Dagueneau wines since the first bottle Adam Lee popped for me and would love to touch that level of “epic-ness” someday.
I am pumped on this vineyard that I have been working with for the last 2 vintages. I always loved me some Pouilly Fume and I love NZ SB. I feel this wine almost bridges those two styles. Nutty, stony & just a touch of tropical fruit. It could easily please both types of wine drinkers: ultra-geeks and everyday yummy wine drinkers.
Also, I am aging 3 barrels of this same wine for about 18 months in neutral oak just to see how funky we can get. look for it spring of 2012. Come by and taste it side by side as it progresses!
