Will be buying a couple of cases of the 2011 before it’s all gone but would also like something for current drinking? 2007 comes to mind but also the 2008, or the 2009 if I could find any? I hope to hear from the many Prum fans out there!
Any of those… I’d put 03 and 06 towards the bottom of my list but I’d buy this wine blindly in any vintage.
Yup agree with you there - they’re utterly sublime Kabinetts and find them so hard to resist drinking when quite young.
Depends on whether you are looking for Kabinett styled wines or Kabinett on the label with Spatlese Oechsele in the bottle.
That’s a very good point. I’ve tried some '09s that would fall into this category and would, therefore, like to find a case of the '09 if possible. I seem to remember many of '11s would fit in this category too.
I’ve been drinking through some 09 graacher himmelreich kab which has been outstanding. Plently of acidity to balance the fruit, very open. In general, i believe the consensus is that gh drinks better early than ws. That, at least, is my experience.

I remember drinking WS '97, '99, 01 and thinking it simply could not get better than this. For me they’re the pinnacle of kabinett and simply reach heights I thought not possible. Great Riesling allowed to express its self is truly breathtaking - mere words will never do it justice.
2008 or 2012 would be the vintages to look for.
My sentiments exactly.
Except there’s no WS in 2012.
So what - the Graacher Himmelreich is delicious as well, especially in these days of the warmed globe.
Yes it’s nice, but it can’t think of many vintages where I prefer the GH over the WS, or where I prefer Prums GH to Schaefer’s (the same applies in reverse with WS).
But there’s no reason not to buy lots…
It’s less a question of preference than it is an aknowledgement that Prum makes a lovely GH kabinett. As for Schaefer, I tend to buy so much Domprobst that Himmelreich gets forgotten.
Whoa - details???!
There weren’t enough WS Kab level grapes, so they went into an estate Kab. There is a GH and maybe one or two others I don’t recall.
We offered on a presell this summer 2012 Estate Kabinett, Bernkasteler Badstube Kabinett, and Graacher Himmelreich Kabinett. The Wehlener Sonnenuhr spaetlese rocked so I bought a case of magnums for my cellar.
I also bought 2012 Maximin Gruenhaus Abstberg Kabinett magnums which I also highly recommend.
Warning we (Classic Wine Imports) sell these wines in Massachusetts.
Yep I have those, and double mags of Grunhaus. But having tried several Grunhaus Kab from the 70s and 80s recently it makes me wonder why I buy mags. The bottles are so fresh. I guess they look cool.
Yes you do. You sell them to me! Mine! Mine!
My precioussssssssssss…
I do love my JJP WS classic style - not overly weighty, eg not spatlese richness, but was thinking maybe I should go for a case of say '07 or '08(love both those vintages) and then being bold and going for, what I’d imagine to be, the richer '11? What do you think?
Oh my!
I have two double magnums of Weibach St. Catherine (not the same thing, of course) for some reason, that I can’t figure out what to do with. Really, unless you’re hosting a wedding or conducting a charity auction, it’s hard to make sense out of them.
