Hey Paul,
I’ve heard a lot of positive stuff about R&R. The seven course tasting menu throws me off, but they are now doing a prix fixe menu where you can choose your own dishes on Wednesday’s and Thursday’s. May have to try that.

Let me know what you think if you try the prix fixe.
Has anyone tried Bistro d’Azur in Maplewood? It came up in my FB feed
South Orange. I’ve been twice now and both times it was excellent!
Same as Ian. I think we’ve been three times. My only complaint is the menu rarely changes. The lobster crepe is my favorite dish.
Don’t even know if it was BYO or not. But The Fox & Falcon by David Burke in South Orange closed in recent months. Never went.
Another local failure, Village Hall Restaurant, closed and is relauching (or has) as Felina Steak South Orange (both operated by Landmark Hospitality Group). Have to assume it will be another dismally overpriced failure. With a FEW notable exceptions, SOMA (or MAPSO to the other side of town) really isn’t a fine dining mecca. Fine by me. I’d rather head to some obscure dosa place in Edison. Us and another couple did this about two months ago, whipped out the wine, glasses, and our own utensils (all they have are plastic). Food was fantastic, service fine. Could sit there as long as we liked. Suffice it to say we were the only people “like us” and most everyone got a kick out of our presence. Exotic!
Isn’t Felina a chain?
Pretty sure it is since there is a Felina close to us in Ridgewood and there is a similarly logoed place at EWR terminal A
FWIW, went to the Felina in Hudson House (Jersey City) this past Thursday for my son’s law school graduation. Place was DEAD. And they still made us wait until everyone was there to be seated. Overpriced cocktails. Couple of decently priced Nebbiolo options from Piedmont (wine list is okay if you know how to truffle hunt). Food was good plus, nothing spectacular. View of the city was nice even with it being cloudy. Except for the occasion, totally unmemorable evening.
Upstairs were one (possibly two?) high school proms. Which seems to be how the place in general stays in business. Huge restaurant floorspace and bar. Maybe 7-8 tables during prime dining hours.
Marc,
Care to share the name of the Dosa place? We are minutes from Edison and never ever go there to eat and probably should as it’s an incredible melting pot there.
A name like Cohen and you never go to Harold’s?
LOL. Yes…we go to Harold’s. But it’s a once in a blue moon kind of experience. I definitely haven’t been since well before the pandemic.
The owner recently passed.
Love that place.
Sri Dosa Place, actually in Iselin. Gets pretty packed so wouldn’t go with more than four people unless on the early side.
Hello all. I’ve found myself in Northern NJ (Park Ridge/Montvale) a lot lately. Any recommendations for northern Bergen County, as close to Rockland County as possible? Thanks.
Cafe panache has been reliable for that area but I think the long time chef passed away recently

The owner and chef, Kevin Kohler, passed away in 2021. I believe the family still owns it and the current chef started there early on in his career and then returned in late 2021. Many of the signature dishes are still on the menu.
There is another good BYOB in Ramsey a few blocks away on the same street (Main St). It’s called Bici
Cafe Panache would be my choice. Kevin did pass away within the last couple years but it’s still excellent.
If you want some casual or diverse places:
Hey everyone,
I’m from Philly but I have to drive up to Edison next week. I’ve heard this is a great area for Chinese food as well as Indian? Any lunch recs in the area that are can’t miss? Wine not important here, thanks!
