Oh, you know damn well if I had done that, it would’ve shattered!
Still in disbelief that it survived, that bounce was crazy!
It’s also why you should always drink out of a coupe.
And back on track - appreciate the '19 Vare TN. After buying for few years now, I’m debating this or the '22 Jasud as my first Beta/Jasud to try.
2012 Montecillo. Great acidity and a cherry/earthy component going on for the first glass. Moved on to a 2003 Shifflett Cab from mag and a 2014 Detert East Block. At 8 hours from opening the Beta turned to more blue/plum fruit profile with the acidity still going strong. Big difference between the three wines. The Shifflett and the Detert had more of a ripe fruit, confiture, profile while the Beta was a fresh fruit profile if that make sense. Probably the acidity on the Beta was making it lean this way. The Shifflett felt pillowy after the Beta. All great wines but completely different styles. The Beta has years, probably decades, ahead of it.
Ketan’s wines are meant to lay sideways. I’ll be a broken record repeating this.
Thought that thirteen years was a good amount of time to check in on one of them. This one was showing no age at all.
I remember having the 12 a few years ago and it was stunning. I could taste and see some of the age. Granted it could always age longer.
Hopping on this thread primarily out of interest. Is it easy to contact/taste with Ketan? I ask because I see a ton of posts about people tasting with him on this board but I personally emailed him once and never got a response. Should I just try again?
He’s a one man operation focused on the vines and late August/early September is likely a busy time for him. Many members have reported he isn’t always prompt at responding to email. Give him some time and try again.
Has a ‘13 last year that needed every bit of a 24 hr DD and then kept improving over our drinking period of another 2-3 hrs.
The last glass of this was the best, wotn for us.
What universe have we entered where new release Bordeaux like the 2022s allegedly are built for early maturation and appreciation, and CA Cabs now command 15+ years!?! ![]()
I can definitely see Ketan’s wines building over time to a Bordeaux-like complexity with all of its typical ancillary and tertiary characteristics.
Dry farmed, no trellis system; yeah he’s not the typical Napa winery operation. I wouldn’t lump Ketan in with the bulk of Napa that is going for optimal ripeness and irrigated vines. He’s more Bordeaux like with his farming, but no blending. 100% Cabernet.
I’m not sure if you are on the list, but he said he gets a lot of requests to taste and prioritizes people who have supported his efforts over the years.
He will be tough to get a tasting with if you are not already buying.
Ketan is also tough to get via email and even cell. He is a true mountain man.
Just out of curiosity, where did you see Kinsman selling at a significant discount? Any KE wine I’ve seen on the internet has a price that is at least $50+ over retail.

I believe this wine was released at $195 per bottle. Don’t have the mag offer price, but after premium this is probably pretty close to release price. The release price jumped in 2018.
Add 10% BP onto that, right, so it’s $451, something like that?
