Japanese Whiskey

[rofl.gif]

That’s Rayko Walkeryoshi San to you

Why would you make that assumption?

It’s a joke [whistle.gif]

Nah son, that don’t play here.

What??!!? Lol. Funny boy

Precisely! It’s a joke [whistle.gif]

I got it already.

Anyone know about the Suntory Royal Special Reserve? I opened a bottle from about the early 1970’s yesterday. Very nice, aromatic, and elegant whiskey. Very long and persistent.

Had some Nikka 12 year yesterday. Been awhile since I had it, and forgotten how much peaty smoke was the primary characteristic.

Same. I had NIkka Coffey Grain also really good.

Really like the Nikka Coffee Grain. Kind of got me kick started on the Whiskey search. Distilled spirits are still under state control here, which actually works to some advantage as many allocated whiskey’s end up available at regular markups.

Opted for some heavy pours at the Yamazaki Distillery in Osaka. Hakashu 25 ended up being my favorite of the bunch (surprised me). Loved the place and would recommend a visit.

I thought I’d go buy a bottle of Hakushu and see for myself.

Oops.

That’s a great pic!

I recently discovered that and liked it! (Great value, in my opinion.)

I like their gin, as well!

Bet you didn’t have to fly to London to taste the gin.

Does it drink closer to a bourbon or a scotch?

More like a gin, I expect

Coffey Grain is more like American Whisky than Scotch.

Hakushu of any kind has become hard to buy in the US. The 12 and 18 used to be relatively easy to find. If you watch the K&L feed you may see the 12 show up there. I can’t say if it’s worth $100 but it is good. It’s peaty but not smoky, more in a grassy and herbal way. It has something in common with Scotch but I don’t know of any Scotch like it.

Actually I think it’s more like Irish Whiskey, but a bit sweeter on the finish.
