Japan Report: Tokyo & Kyoto

The whole place is BTG. IIRC, the pricing is equivalent between a bottle and BTG (he didn’t want to discount the bottle, he’d rather share it among more customers).

Yes. Everything is by the glass. There is no wine list. He made a point of saying he doesn’t want to manage a list but instead just open a bunch of stuff that he thinks is drinking well and/or interesting.

He poured some 2013 moulin a vent for example from a producer I never heard of that was drinking fantastic. He said he picked up several cases on release and has been opening them over the years to check on them and you can tell how passionate he is about his wine collection which he said is over 5,000 bottles.

I don’t remember how many glasses we had between my wife and I but it was a lot and I had 5 glasses of what I considered very high end wine and I think our bill was the equivalent of $260 USD. And I didn’t even know to mention the WB connection!!!

Oh and I forgot, the glass of Chapoutier wasn’t even on my bill because he gave it to me after we had paid!!

Booked a table for April 13th

how’s the food?

We did not eat there so cannot say but the table next to us seemed to be enjoying the food and it looked very well presented. We just went for wine after dinner out elsewhere.

Enjoy!!
