What do folks on the board know or think about Jadot’s Chambertin? I assume this is a negociant wine, as opposed to the Clos de Beze which is a domain wine. Am I right about that?
Have any of you had much tasting experience with this bottling? There are a few scattered notes on CT, but not much. Also, the Jadot website doesn’t mention it (that I could find).
Yes…Jadot’s Chambertin has always been a negoc bottle unlike Chambertin-Clos de Beze which has always been a domaine bottle. In my view…Chambertin-Clos de Beze should be their 2nd best red - behind their Muisgny. The 3rd best red from Jadot should be Bonnes-Mares but there are 2 versions : Domaine and Negoc.
Sorry that I do not have any experience with their Chambertin.
I’ve had the 96 Chambertin, probably around 5 years ago. It was quite closed and never really opened to get a peek into it. Did seem balanced and well made. I’ve always thought this wine to not be the equal of the CDB in the Jadot stable.
Quite sometimes ago there was a thread of discussion between the differene of labels re Jadot - B-Mares ( the domaine one with the negoc one ). After reading this thread I went to my cellar and checked my bottles which happily were domained bottles. The gentleman who started ( or participated ) in the thread recognised that the bottle he owned was negoc bottle.
Hope someone ( or Leo ) could post more about this …
The difference is very similar to the domaine bottle and negoc bottle for Ferve Les Clos.
Good to know on the BM, though perhaps it was just one vintage where they were able to buy extra juice - anyone know if it continues?
Also, on the CdB, from what I understand (and have seen a picture) there is a non-Domaine bottling for 2009 - so 2 different Beze bottlings, one Domaine and one non-Domaine (no clue as to what the non-Domaine version is), with the Domaine bottling clearly saying Domaine at the bottom and the non-Domaine, not having that line of the label…
Dan - thanks. You are right on in that… the BM was perhaps just one vintage.
I was not aware that there is a non-Domaine bottling for Beze in 2009. In Quebec, Canada the last vintage for Jadot Beze - the Domaine version - was 2003.
I have no experience with the Chambertin. Regarding negociant bottlings of Bonnes Mares or Clos de Beze, or NSG Boudots which is another exmple, I really hate it when a large merchant with a stellar reputation, such as Jadot, issues both a domaine wine and a negociant wine from the same appellation. They need to consider how their wines are purchased in these modern times… generally pre-arrival or by phone or internet, and buyer not able to touch the bottle and read the label. Just makes too much confusion. Jadot and Bouchard and Fevre need to solve this problem, IMO.
Never thought I needed to double check (probably have 4+ cases) but now I will after hearing about the 05 above as well…
More on topic, even though I have a boatload of GC Jadot, I have never bought or tried (even across a couple extensive visits) the Chambertin…has anybody?
