Just received their e-mail deeply discounting 2006 Bordeaux arriving in the fall. Here are some of them:
2006 Angelus 750ml - $119.99 (reg. $186.99)
2006 Cheval Blanc 750ml - $329.99 (reg. $598.99)
2006 Cos d’Estournel 750ml - $74.99 (reg. $114.99)
2006 Haut Brion 750ml - $299.99 (reg. $571.99)
2006 Leoville-Las Cases 750ml - $129.99 (reg. $219.99)
Makes you wonder what’s going to happen to 2007 and 2008 prices if the economy doesn’t get much better.
It will be interesting to see how deep this goes…
Not biting on the sale.
Probably just the beginning. I would like to see the prices come down deep enough that I can stock my cellar with this noteworthy vintage and enjoy them in 10-12 years, hopefully when I am retired. What do our retail friends think?
I think 07 will be a bloodbath. Few people bought EP to start with (as opposed to 06) and now it’s clear the vintage wasn’t very good (that might even be generous). There must be TONS of this wine sitting around somewhere. What would it take to get you to buy this vintage? For me, I’m not sure there’s any price I would consider. Is any money worth mediocre wine? Not for me.
08 will probably be ok (not great) thanks to Uncle Bob unless it turns out his (and Leve’s) analysis was incorrect for most tasters.
