It's The Weekend...What Is Everyone Drinking?

Last night I braved an '06 Mollydooker Carnival of Love. I hate to admit it…I liked it as it was nothing like the two bottles I had a year and a half ago.

Last night we had '02 Ridge Monte Bello and '98 Billecart Salmon Nicolas Francois . . .

Some salmon grilling on Sunday with a couple '05 Oregon Pinots (Cameron Electrique and St Innocent Justice) and a comparison of '97 and '98 Williams-Selyem PN Hirsch. Also some SGN and champagne yet to be named.

Nothing last night but tonight a 2003 Calon Segur. Mmmmmmmm bordoe [cheers.gif]

Had the 07 Pra Soave last night. Stunning little Italian white.

Just pulled the corks on…

2004 Copain James Berry Syrah
2006 Copain James Berry Syrah
2001 Pride Mountain Petite Sirah

I suspect the 2 Copains needs some air, especially the 2006.

Tomorrow is then grenache, probably I am thinking about 40 selections–notes next week… [truce.gif]

We’ll be taking to our friend’s house for a paella dinner: 1999 Palacios ‘Las Terrasses’ and 1998 Vega Sicilia Tinto Valbueña 5º. We might also take a 2007 Protocolo Rosado.

About to open a 2006 Outpost Howell Mountain Zin.

That certainly was my impression when I tried the 2006 a few months ago. It was very promising on Day 2, but I won’t revisit it for a while. I am looking forward to your notes.

Well,

Last night had dinner with a some friends at the Carillon (a restaurant owned by UT – it was, literally, empty – the food was fantastic) and we popped a bottle of 00 Goutorbe Special Club (delish), 93 Leroy Puligny Montrachet Charmes (Holy Cow!), 04 Aubert Lauren (yum, as always), a mag of 96 Mongeard Mugneret Richebourg (super extra double Yum!, with a Holy Cow! on the side), a bottle of 91 Mondavi Cabernet Sauvignon Reserve (delish), and a bottle of 99 Ogier Cote Rotie (yum).

This afternoon, I popped an 04 Chateau de Puligny Montrachet Folatieres which is drinking nicely, if a bit inexpressive. Later tonite, with home made onion rings and sliders I plan to open either the 05 Aubert Pinot Noir UV or the 06 Saxum Broken Stones, or, if I’m feelin’ saucy, both.

Tomorrow, going to a dinner party with friends – Italian theme – and will probably pull an 04 Lisini Brunello to see what I think, maybe also a 78 Borgogno Barolo. Also, since I seem to always to be the only champagne partisan, I’ll bring along a Billiot Cuvee Laetitia for starters.

Forgot to add in my reply to FMIII what I have been drinking. There are two bottles open at the moment – 2007 Domaine Gardies Cotes du Roussilon Villages and 2007 Linne Calodo Problem Child. The latter is still close to cellar temp, so I haven’t really had a chance to taste it. I can say that my two open bottles have in common the fact that they contain red wine, but apart from that they are very different.

Last night - '95 Bruno Paillard BdB
'64 La Rioja Alta Gran Reserva 890
'69 Muga Prada Enea

Notes to follow shortly.

Tonight - Snapple Diet Raspberry Iced Tea since I have my daughter and a few of her friends over for movie night/chocolate chip cookies/popcorn/chocolate milk/sleepover.
No notes to follow.

Tomorrow - At least 1 bottle of lumber - TBD

True Lumber: I’ll be drinking Law Library water from the drinking fountain. wazzup

I had a bottle of 2006 Coho Headwaters last night. I must admit, I didn’t know anything about this wine until Laube gave it a score of 95. For $30/bottle at Winex, why not. Not a bad wine at all. Maybe not a 95, but a very solid wine with complexities. This afternoon, just relaxing with a bottle of 1998 R. López de Heredia Rioja Rosado Gran Reserva Viña Tondonia. This one is harder to judge. There is some oxidized/metallic taste that ruined notes of orange, cherry, and coconut. It may be an off bottle. The good/bad thing is, I have three more.

J.M. Boillot 2004 Batard Montrachet last night and a Domaine Tempeir Bandol Rose tonight.
