It's The Weekend, 9/18/2009...What Is Everybody Drinking?

Tonight, I have no clue.

Tomorrow will be some domestic bubbles and a big red to go with some beef.

Sunday will be interesting as I need to find something to enjoy while watching the NY Giants beat the Cowgirls at home in their brand new billion dollar stadium. [stirthepothal.gif]

+1…agua for me.

Next weekend being OCTOBER 25 thru OCTOBER 27? [stirthepothal.gif] My how time flies!!!

Meritage wines today
Award winning blonk tomorrow (go figure)
Wine Exchange tasting on Sunday (perhaps)!

My brother (teetotaler/rabid NYY fan) is coming to town, and we have Sat & Sun tix to Yanks @ Mariners. So it’s looking like a beer and brats weekend for me.

At least it’ll be a break from the usual Safeco mausoleum - 50% Yankee fans with everybody (except my bro) booing ARod.

Tonight we will be entertaining fellow Berserker Mike Mikowicz at our place to perform scientific research on some of Mike’s 2007 Dauvissat La Forest. Some German and Alsatian whites (including potentially a 2000 Z-H Riesling Brand) and a red or two will be involved as well.

Tomorrow I will be playing in a pool tournament, probably hung over, but beer is indicated for that environment.

No idea what I’ll be doing Sunday.

Pansies.

Nothing on tap for Friday and Saturday.

Sunday is an Ovarian Cancer Benefit

Wait, you’re eating meat this weekend? neener

Friday dinner (because of the time difference, just concluded) - I and a couple of friends held a dinner I named “Una Noche Riojana” (i.e., A Riojan Night). As its name indicates, it was an all Rioja dinner, the menu prepared and executed by a dear friend/restaurateur/chef/Phd in Oenology, Juan Carlos “JC” de Terry (whose family owned and ran sherry producer Bodegas Terry for around 140 years until they sold out to the Domecq group). The reds were:

1985 Lopez De Heredia Viña Tondonia Gran Reserva
1985 Marqués de Murrieta Castillo Ygay Gran Reserva Especial
1989 Rioja Alta Gran Reserva 890
1995 CVNE Imperial Gran Reserva
1995 Campillo Gran Reserva
1997 Rioja Alta Gran Reserva 904
1998 Marqués de Murrieta Castillo Ygay Gran Reserva Especial
1999 Cerro Añon Gran Reserva
2001 Marqués de Riscal Barón de Chirel

It was an incredible dinner all around - definitely one of the best I have had a hand in organizing. Thanks to Victor de la Serna for his advice on proper service of the aged Riojas and his (earlier posted) recommendation of the Barón de Chirel.

Proper notes to follow as it is 1:30am as I write.

Tonite, with some novice wine enthusiasts at some fancy restaurant in Santa Ana (WTF??? that’s an oxymoron, fancy and Santa Ana in the same breath):

1991 and 2005 Ridge Santa Cruz Cabernet

Tomorrow at a wacky birthday party with a bunch of cops (WTF???):

2004 Saxum Broken Stones

So the ‘fancy’ restaurant in Santa Ana doesn’t have wheels and an engine?

Exactly my thoughts

Puke and rally.

Tonight '04 Lucia “Susan’s Hill”

Tomorrow LOS with Mike Stoneking and Kent Zimmerman so lots of Rieslings.

03 Kalleske Shiraz - good stuff!

Rieslings, but then again I am in Germany touring the Mosel and Nahe!!!

Finally settled on a 2006 Foley Petite Sirah Muscle Man.

It’s like 3am…shouldn’t you be asleep?

After a particularly brutal week, some NV Billiot tonight and likely a Sojourn PN tomorrow (06 or 07 either SC or Sangiocomo). Predictable for sure, but sometimes instead of trying something new, you go back to what you know you like.

Tonight was a 2005 Rhys Alesia Falstaff Road Vineyard. Drinking quite nicely.
