It's Official, Jay Miller no longer reviewing Australian wines!

As I mentioned previously (don’t you just love when rumors come true?)…

I guess we will all have to guess why. Is this the official WA introduction to Lisa Perrotti Brown?

Onto 4 weeks in Spain for him…well earned, since he has been a good boy, since April…

I know you guys love the WA bashing over here…but frankly, they must be concerned when they see Jay’s performance in the poll on their own website. WHO does believe his notes?

Jeff

If you read one of the trainwrecks over there, Miller explicitly says that Parker is the only one that matters.

Public opinion matters not in the land of Oz, I mean Monkton.

I do not think he means Tyler Colman here…

The quality and integrity of my work has never been in question with the one person whose opinion matters.

Dude…Jay is taking a beating over there that even Posner would be proud of. Its gotten ridiculous though. Actually makes me feel bad for the guy. And he has handled it respectfully which is more than Parker himself seems to do sometimes. The ass kissing by some of the recurrent ass kissers though is enough to quickly turn any sympathy into irritation.

Daniel Posner,
Take a bow IMO. Though I have virtually no knowledge about nor interest in wines from Australia or Spain, you didn’t simply push the consumer-oriented envelope there, you got your frickin bulldozer in gear. Well done !

Interesting how they chose to announce it; quiet and hidden in a post by Jay over New Year’s weekend. No accident.

You called it, Dan, I must say.

If there is one strength that Jay does have, he has the palate of the masses. deadhorse

Ain’t that the truth. Jay has handled it better than the toadies - although he has had a few missteps (oh, I’ve never visited Portugal, but I haven’t written about it yet).

  1. I wonder who the new Aussie critic will, in fact, be.

  2. I wonder how long it will take for a thread to pop up here basing that person. Probably first review! pileon

It is Lisa Perrotti Brown…if you will believe me.

Which is a shocker, as she doesn’t seem to have much depth of background.

That’s apparently a trend over there.

Much depth of background in what?

She’s a MW…which is more than I can say for the rest of the WA team…

You may or may not jive with her palate but she is going to know what she is talking about…

My new favorite Aussie wine rating methodology will no longer work. headbang

Take any Aussie wine where Tanzer gives a higher rating that Jay and buy it. Guaranteed to be a better wine than a Jay Miller 95er.

Seriously, Jay Miller wasted a lot of my money. His grade inflation has just been obscene in hindsight. There should not be that many Tanzer 89/WA 96 point wines. A 96 point wine should be spectacular and at least age for a handful of years. If anything, Jay has maybe gotten too much mercy. Any wine that Jay rates highly that doesn’t have a rating by another rater, i just can’t buy anymore. I just expect an overripe low acid wine.

I for one will be interested to see Lisa’s reviews in no small part due to her MW credentials. The fact that she may “lack some depth of background” (where do you get this, BTW?) would be refreshing as it is the winemaker cronyism that usually gets in the way of objective criticism.

Not that I’m going to go running out to buy any Aussie wines based on the reviews…

Jay has gotten so beat up I feel bad for him. I do not like his lax point scoring and he really got whacked for not living up to the supposed pay your own way policy, but geez… he always seemed like a decent guy personally. I would have no problem if he started posting here just as a poster. Maybe he needs to be given a New Years break.

And?

Again - she has an MW - I would be sure I fully understood what earning an MW entails before I say she lacks a depth of background…

I get it. She has an MW. She is now solely responsible for Australia. There is no mention of her expertise in that area.

So yes, she has an MW. That is impressive. What are her credentials regarding the region she is covering?
