It's Friday, 5/8/09...What's On Tap For The Weekend?

Tonight, a bunch of the local posse is getting together to taste through some 2005 Bordeaux to see where they are in their evolution. Theme is double blind with all wines rated 96 points or better from RMP (no comments please). A couple of QPR ringers will be thrown in to keep us honest. Will also have bubbles, whites and some Sauternes to round out the evening.

I’m sure that you can find something around the house to sip on.

Tomorrow a trek out to Springfield, MA to Table and Vine for some wine shopping with Lang esq. and PMC.

Down to the cape on Sunday for mothers day.

Enjoy that…

I worked there for four months at Bay State Healthcare.

CHUG! CHUG! CHUG! CHUG!

Lillian. In anticipation of the new offer. Might as well try before buy.

I used to shop there when it was Big Y Wines (and in Northampton). Loved that store. How does the new version compare?

Oh yeah!! Springfield it a total sh*t hole yet it has probably the best wine store in MA.

Please add “M.A.” onto the end of my name please, along with “NASD 6, 7 & 63 Licensed.”

Thanks! [gheyfight.gif]

A lot of people shudder up here when you mention Texas fwiw
[1974_eating_popcorn.gif].

Oops, forgot to mention I’m on the scotch hunt tomorrow, in addition to wine.

Thinking 16yr Laguvulin or 15 yr Laphroig…decisions…

Hosting a cali cab under $20 tasting…talk about the blind leading the blind. The guests know even less about wine than I do. But it’s a good excuse to get lit with 16 other people.

David,

Table and Vine is a really great store. Huge selection that mostly focuses on CA and French wines. It also has a good variety of German, Spanish and other new world varieties. I would say the store best compares to a Bev Mo with a bit deeper selection and variety.

Mini-bottles of smuggled tequila at Dave Matthews in Vegas.

'05 Arcadian Sleepy Hollow Chardonnay with lobster tonight. Very much looking forward to that pairing.

Back in the late '80s Big Y Wines was in a huge space that appeared to have been a grocery store in a former life. The wine area was huge… over 2000 different wines in row upon row of wire racks. They kept it cool, too… 55F, if memory serves. And the guys who worked the floor were great… young, but knowledgable… turned me on to all sorts of stuff I’d never heard of, and they often had something good open in the back.

I think they changed their name to T&V in the '90s, then opened a second store in Springfield, and closed the original store in Northampton a few years ago. It sounds like they are still huge and great… can’t wait to get back there some fine day…

Likely a Tercero or Epiphany Grenache Blanc with grilled shrimp tonight. Tomorrow it’s off to Atlantic City for the Spectator’s grand Tour.

It’s actually “FINRA licensed” now (I work for FINRA - please don’t hate me).

Don’t forget about the Flannery Rib Caps!

Should be a great and tannic fest!!

(Sorry you can’t make it Philip. Don’t worry, probably nothing worth drinking here anyway… just keep telling yourself that!)
