It's Friday 09/25/09...What Is Everyone Drinking This Weekend?

Whats the meal / occasion?

Since it’s blazing hot here in Long Beach 90+ at the shore we will probably lean toward more Sauv Blancs and cold beers and the last of my summer Rose stash.

I like the way the Cali 05’s are drinking right now so if it were me I would pop the Cliff Lede Stags.

the 05 HBL might be interesting… plus I have one of those so you can tell me what its like…

Tonight '06 Novy “Rosellas”

Saturday some sort of big '05 Cali Cab tasting

At a tasting tomorrow:

05 Meyer Cabernet
05 Paradigm Cabernet
06 Vice Versa Le Petit Vice Cab

and an 06 Pax Alder Springs…

Sunday: TBD

Enjoying the cooling breeze that I presume is coming over the top of The Todd’s house as it works it’s way over the 5 Freeway to my place! [wink.gif]

  • 2005 Clos Pepe Estate Pinot Noir - USA, California, Central Coast, Santa Rita Hills - Sta. Rita Hills (9/24/2009)
Distinct difference in my feelings about this wine between this bottle and the one from this past February. I really disliked the February bottle due to a barnyard element and I was concerned that I would find the same again, especially owning a mag of this wine, I was not thrilled. However, I have to say, this is a much better bottle and there is no trace of brett or barnyard. In fact, if you look at Richard Jenning’s recent note, he too mentions this attribute but I don’t find it here. Lots of silky cherry, acidity and a long finish…and with a full day to let the wine open, as is customary for most of my TNs, a better view of the wine now. Black cherry, raspberry, cranberry and a hint of mineral offer a very nice drink now. There is some ripeness, through the black cherry feel, in the wine but it adds polish and some effusiveness to the overall sensation, along with even some shades of truffle and mushroom. So much better than the February bottle, thank god.

Had one of these a few weeks back. I hope yours does as well as mine did – outstanding.

Finishing up a Lane Tanner Julia’s 06 while the Red Sox are losing, we’ll see what happens next.

Cool - I love what Andrew (AP Vin) does with Clos Pepe fruit. I’ll have to try this one at some point.

That Cliff Lede is awesome. Just make sure to decant it for at least an hour if that’s the one you pick.

For work:
2008 Clos du Caillou CDR-It’s a shame this is wholesaling for what we used to retail it for 6 years ago, but damn if it isn’t still worth every penny
2006 Chateau de Gaudeau Cahors-thought it was corked yesterday, but bringing the rustic funk today.

For play: The Bruery Autumn Maple- think Dogfish Head Punkin Ale with a Belgian influence. As a Belgian nut, I’m impressed.

Tomorrow, whatever’s left over from a rainy Saturday at work

Opened up a bottle of '05 Sea Smoke Ten . . . yuck, couldn’t drink more than a few sips.

If it’s for your B.day party, open them all… and we’ll wait for TN
Celebrate all weekend
