Here are some shorthand notes from an Italian wine seminar I sponsored in our cellar.
(Rob Forman of Dalla Terra was the guest speaker. Thanks Rob for the words and wines!)
Ajello 2008 Bianco
Blend of Grillo and Catarratto. Vivid yellow citrus and apple flavors backed by zippy acidity.
Lageder 2007 Pinot Bianco
Cortland apples for pie baking in the aroma. Crisp finish after fullish appley fruit. Cheap and good!
Inama 2006 Soave Classico Cru Foscarino
Aromas of volcanic rock and white fruit. Dense, creamy mouthfeel. Friggin delicious.
Li Veli 2007 Passamante
100% Negroamaro - purple fruit and smoke aromas. Ripe fruit without losing tense balance. Spice on finish.
Vietti 2007 Barbera Tre Vigne
Plump red fruit aromas. Luscious and juicy flavors, but firm acid finish. The word “Rockin’” is underlined in my notes here. That’s good right?
Avignonesi 2008 Rosso di Montepulciano
Plum, black cherry aromas. Complex body of fresh fruit with anise and spice. Another winner on the cheap.
Badia a Coltibuono 2005 Chianti Classico Riserva
Very powerful aromas mirrored in body: black cherry, wood spice. Substantial wine for the cellar.
La Valentina 2004 Montepulciano d’Abruzzo “Spelt”
Funky, chewy aromas. Black fruit is dry and concentrated. Tannic and big wine.
Tenuta Sant’Antonio 2005 Amarone
Raisin, black fruit aromas. Dense and spicy body is very lush and potent. Oily but bright finish. Wow for under $50.
Saracco 2008 Moscato d’Asti
Peachy ripeness. Juicy. Reminds me of the chewable penicillin I had to take as a kid. Too bad or I’d like it more.
