Italian Wine All-Stars 2013

So WineNews from Italy has just published their Italian Wine All-Stars for 2013, which represent current releases that received the top rating from all of the 5 most prominent wine guides in Italy. Just for reference, those are: Tre Biccheri from Gambero Rosso; Cinque Bottiglie (5 Bottles) from Vini d’Italia L’Espresso; Tre Stelle (3 Stars) by I Vini di Veronelli; Cinque Grappoli (5 Bunches) by Italian Sommelier Association AIS/Bibenda; and Grandi Vini (Great Wines) by Slow Food’s Slow Wine.

So who were the winners?

  1. Il Carnasciale Caberlot 2010
  2. Vietti Barolo Riserva Villero 2006
  3. Sassicaia 2010
  4. Biondi-Santi Brunello Riserva 2007
  5. Gianfranco Fino Primitivo Manduria Es 2011

The first four I’m quite familiar with, but I know nothing about the Gianfranco Fino Primitivo. Any of our Italian experts know about this producer or wine and care to share? Sounds like it’s worth checking out…

FWIW here’s the original article (in Italian)
