....it smells like "a rose by any other name would smell as sweet;" sort of

Is that a positive or a negative descriptor for your friend ? blush

Tastes vary, you know…

Here is my TN on the same wine from last night with Serge.

Nose was Bordeaux dirty underwear, it was quite stinky and at first I was put off by it. This nose did NOT go away the entire time. But once I tasted the wine, my concerns melted away as the wine was in the prime of its life. It could go another 10-15 years at least. It was very smooth, not as complex as some Bord’s I have had, but it was very enjoyable with a mid palate that was still full of fruit and a finish that last 30 seconds.

The biggest issue I had was the nose: Some adjectives other than what Serge mentioned.

  1. Wet Dog
  2. body odor
  3. Musty
  4. Barnyard
  5. Dog breath
  6. Earthy
  7. Mud

The nose had it all. All the negatives you would think of from an old Bordeaux. This one was probably right up there with the nose of the 1981 La Mission HB we had last month. Just not pleasant.

But damn it did taste good.

“damn it did taste good…just like an…” nevermind.

Alan, how can you be sure that smell was the wine and not Serge? [scratch.gif]

The wine smells better   neener

We had a 98 Gruraud Larose on Friday night and it was all Brett all the time.
