Is Gigondas the overlooked CDP cousin?

I understand that the Pallieres property had fallen into neglect by the time Kermit Lynch and the Brunier family acquired it from the Roux family in 1998, and that they thereafter did a lot of replanting. I tried a few of their early vintages and gave up on them after the 2007s, which I found to be much as Paul did. I am not sure when they got it turned around, but recent vintages are very good.

@Martin_Steinley I liked the previous wines, which were a single cuvée. 2007 was the first year it was split into two cuvées. I rather enjoyed the unpretentious pre-2007 single cuvée.

I like Les Pallieres alot. Both the Diable and the Les Racines can be excellent. But, I do not consider them very long lived wines. Best within the first ten years or so. You likely waited too long.

I find grenache-dominated wines particularly fickle when it comes to showing alcohol – the same wine can show very hot on one occasion and perfectly balanced on another.

This was taken at Anne-Sophie Pic last year. The table was equally split as to which they preferred. I served the Gour de Chaulé blind after the Roumier with the early consensus being it was another vintage of the same wine.

My! It calls to mind Parker’s comment in the WA back circa 1990 (from memory), “Why would anyone drink Burgundy when they can buy Chateauneuf for so much less.”
