IPNC notes from Jancis Robinson

This past July Jancis Robinson was the guest of honor at the International Pinot Noir Celebration. On a very warm evening we wandered around a series of tables on the quad at Linfield College. Jancis took notes on her blackberry. This is Pinot Noir Week on her Purple Pages website so she took the time to write up her notes on the 48 wines from NZ, California, Oregon, Canada, Alsace, Germany and Burgundy that were poured by the winemakers that night. Here are her top three wines:

Dom Fourrier, Clos St-Jacques Premier Cru 2007 Gevrey-Chambertin 17.5+ Drink 2013-20
Bright crimson. Tight and scented. Lots of gas/lees influence in this. Made to last! Lively. Juicy. The most youthful wine here. 13.5%

Bergstrom, Bergstrom Vineyard Pinot Noir 2007 Dundee Hills 17.5 Drink 2009-13
NHB. Pure crimson. Lots of clones. Jory basalt. Subtle. Juicy and great balance. Dry finish. 13.9%

Eyrie, Reserve Pinot Noir 2006 Dundee Hills 17.5 Drink 2011-24
Paler than most. Toasty, burgundian, very different from most other Oregon Pinots. Light, relatively lean and really appetising. 13.5%

I had a bottle of the 2006 Eyrie Reserve about a week ago. Nice wine in a style I enjoy, but also had just a wee touch of brett.

Interesting to me that Eyrie released the 2006 Reserve but is still holding the 2005.

NHB? newhere

Naughty heavy bottle. And you should hear her say that aloud.

Interesting data points Michael. Thanks for posting. Nice to be able to calibrate. I very much liked that Fourrier but have a long list of preferences ahead of those 2 particular Oregonians.
