Interesting bottle variation note ...

Funny. I don’t normally open these e-mails. But today from Suburban, at the top of their e-mail, regarding their “wine of the year”:

An update on Suburban’s 2009 Wine of the Year

We have been selling 2005 Pertimali Montecucco for months and were all quite happy when we sent out that email on Friday awarding it the official honor of Suburban’s “Wine of the Year”. Within 2 hours of the email going out and us selling quite a bit of the wine, we were notified by the distributor that there is a bottle variation problem with the wine. We were told that it was with a lot number that was different than what we currently have in stock.

However, just to be safe, we popped corks from a half dozen different bottles of what we do currently have in stock. After the staff tasted the wine again, we discovered that while most of the wines were up to par with what we had selected, several of the bottles were not. We cannot comfortably offer the wine out to our loyal customers.

When we decided to make a commitment to the Pertimali in early November, another shipment had just arrived from Tuscany. Evidently, it is in this shipment that the problem lies.

Anyone who was charged for the wine prior to us being notified of the problem has been refunded in full.

We are truly sorry that this has happened…we really loved this wine and more than anything enjoy sharing that passion with our customers.

So this year, there will be no “Wine of the Year” from Suburban. Perhaps later this week we will share with you the other finalists.

In the meantime on to todays offer.

Always good to see the Retailer and distributor being proactive in this.
