Interest in a Toronto, Canada Based Offline

Berserkers,

I’ve been doing a couple of low-end casual wine get-togethers recently with wine club members and foodie clubs that I belong to, but I am now hankering for a high-end get-together. I’m holding on to a 1980’s Graham’s Vintage Port to share specifically with Berserkers who would properly appreciate this.

First, is there any interest in holding an offline in April or May? I am in Montreal weekend of May 4 but other than that would be totally clear.

Second, does anyone have themes or mini-themes they’d like to suggest? I have a bit of a Niagara vs Cali Pinot Noir thread going on in Wine Talk but would also be interesting in pitting Pinot Gris/Grigio from around the world against each other. It might also be cool to do more than one theme at the same time (hence, the thought of mini-themes).

I will likely be able to get us a reservation at the Eight Wine Bar in the Cosmopolitan Hotel in downtown TO here with no corkage fee if everyone orders dinner off of the menu. Let me know if you’re interested and I’ll get to work on it. [cheers.gif]

I am headed to NOTL during that time period, but I cannot make it up that far. Have a great time, though.

Id be interested in june/july, cant do earlier :frowning:

'Berto! We’d love to have you up here for a change, would be great to have your company again. I’ll PM you about something else too.

As you know, Tran, I’d be interested depending on date and whether I’m around or not, but the May weekends are booking up very quickly. I still wouldn’t mind the idea of a northwest-themed night—haven’t really ever been at any OL where we concentrated on Oregonian, Washington and B.C. product.

Bob, how long are you going to stay around? And is Elaine coming with? I’d really like to catch up with you for a bit, it’s been much too long.

Mike

I’d be interested. I travel to Toronto every few weeks, so with a little advanced notice, I could probably make it work.

I’m interested.
I travel to TO, but caveat is with usually short advanced notice.

Hmmm. Sounds like it might be best to book this for Summer. I’ll consult with Michael and arrange for a date.

I have a speaking engagment in Erie, and we’ll be driving therer from Boston, so we’ll probably stop in NOTL overnight on the way to Erie. So, it would be for one night max. I was going to do a speaking gig in Toronto last fall, but the group there wasn’t able to arrange it on the days I was going to be there. I realize in typing this that I hadn’t thought of this, but I could offer my services to the group in Toronto again. I might not have the time for an OL if I do that, though since they most likely would want to me speak in the evening. I’ll tell you what- I’ll send a message if it looks like we’ll have the time to make it up that way

I’d like to attend as well but travelling a lot in the next few months. I could do May 13th to May 29th or June 7th onwards (though I’ll likely be back in Europe mid-late June. July is open right now but could change in another few weeks. I have one or two friends who would probably love to attend as well.

Mikes idea on NW would be interesting. I have some aged Oregon PN I’d be happy to bring.

Cali vs Ontrio PN is fine too as I have some interesting examples of both.

Paul

Thanks Paul, I think we may be leaning towards June/July now. Bob, by all means, flip me a PM if you think you may have some get-together time.

I always like free corkage! Sounds good.

Tran, you are getting lots of responses but not from the Toronto locals. Hey, no reason we cannot have a May dinner and a June/July dinner!!

If you want it to happen, pick a theme.

I am always game to try Pinot Noir.

Did this fall through the cracks or did I miss out?

didn’t miss out, Paul—didn’t have a lot of out-of-town guests come in for that particular weekend. We’ll still try to do something in the next couple of months, I’m sure, but personally weekends will be at a premium until about October. That doesn’t, of course, preclude a weeknight event
