I am looking to buy an induction burner (single). do you have any personal experience with them and recommendations? The bigger the better (but still one burner only)
Thanks
Costco has em.
Do induction burners allow you to fine tune the “heat”, or are they essentially just on/off, and heating is controlled just by the amount of time on?
They have different heat settings. One of the issues with some of them is that they have too few settings, and often the optimum is between a couple of the settings. The one I use is from Viking and has a continuous turn knob to control the heat. My only complaint is that it doesn’t recognize ceramic coated cast iron pans (maybe all cast iron) as magnetic, so heat won’t turn on. I think this problem may only occur with some of the Viking units.

Thanks, Al.
Zach,
Not always infalible, but go to Amazon, type in Induction burner, check out customer reviews. Might answer some of your questions, reading the reviews.
I have one and it’s digital–I’ll ck the model and settings. But I think it will do 140F to 400F plus

I looked at mine…it’s the Duxtop. 8100 mc
1-10 power setting-- how fast you want it to heat
1-10 temp range – quick presets
140-460 f – 10 degree increases
O - 170 min timer
I use mine at office, when I need to heat molding plastics… Ie shock dr mouth guards.
Some of the lowest settings are like that. For the rest of the settings they use less wattage to get lower heat output.
Also, the size of the “burner” plate affects the evenness of heating depending on the size of the pan you put on there.
Don’t plan on using the induction burner for precise temperature cooking aka sous vide. The temperature markings on these induction units are completely off for many reasons.
Mine is awesome for fast, blazing heat. As mentioned before, too imprecise with temp adjustment for lower temp applications. Very handy for pressure canning.
