In preparation....

A few from the past 3-4 nights at home in preparation for an upcoming crazy 40th b-day weekend of friends/food/wine .

1979 Maison Leroy Pommard Les Vignots: 2nd to last of this one - crazy amounts of earthy zest here. Touches of fresh tobacco, earth laced tart cherry aromas, and leaf material - layered nicely. Secondary with touches of tertiary throughout with a savory cut at the end. I hope the final bottle of this turns out just as nice!

2011 Domaine Leflaive Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru Les Pucelles: I had to try one of these out the gate to get a feel - thank you Pucelles! Touches of creamy honey balanced by high toned acidity really grabbed my attention. A balanced Pucelles IMHO - so young and promising and really got better the 3 or so hours Kelly and I babied this one. Kelly wants more - I’ll try and help her out here .

1985 Domaine Jean-Louis Chave Hermitage: My last of this one :frowning: - and - I can see why a few friends have really loved this! I’ve been asking myself why I haven’t loaded up more on Chave and other favorite No.Rhonies over the past several years and this bottles gives me another reason to kick myself! Signature earthy blackberry, savory cured meats, silky softness, touches of pepper spice. WOW!

2004 Domaine des Comtes Lafon Meursault 1er Cru Les Perrières: Corked [smileyvault-ban.gif]

2002 Domaine Robert Groffier Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru Les Amoureuses: A wonderful showing for this - showing so primary from the get go and really didn’t soften until several hours into it. A big wine that probably needs 10 or so more years to show more of its delicate side - still lovely and very interesting to sip with a couple that is just starting to enjoy wine.

1978 Pierre Ponnelle Bonnes Mares from 1/2 bottle: Full of creamy acidity it seemed at first. This one really beefed up as it sat in the glass adding lovely secondary flavors of mushrooms, flashes of savory tart cherry, and smoke. One needed to sit with this one!

CHEERS

Nice. I’m bummed that we are going to miss the festivities, but look forward to reading the tales of excess… Happy early Birthday!

We’ll share some wine soon TW!!! Version 3.0
